During the last few months of senior year a quote by AA Milne continually surged through Claire Kelly’s mind – “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” “That has never felt more real than it does at this moment,” said Kelly in her salutatorian address during Bishop O’Dowd High School’s 63rd Commencement held on Sunday, June 4, at Oakland’s Paramount Theatre of the Arts. “So this is it, four years of our lives reflected in one day,” she said. “Through struggles and good times we’ve become a family. And with this unique family in mind I’ll say ‘how lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard’.” Kelly encouraged her classmates to hold tight to their special high school memories. “Don’t say goodbye to these memories because I know you’ll treasure them forever. And experiences like these would be a shame to forget because they have indelibly shaped us,” she said.
