Siouxland Magazine | Enjoy / 61 Enjoy this homemade cheesecake at Sfumato Pizzeria. Filled With Love: Cheesecake By Jada Tirre I learned to make the cheesecake from Nathan ‘Nate’ Howe who had worked at Sfumato’s and had passed down the recipe to me. I met Nate at the Le Mars Farmers Market in the summer of 2018, when I started my business, Filled with Love. I brought an assortment of baked goods (Chocolate covered bacon, artisan bread, empanada, bagels, Aztec brownies, cake pops, etc.) and would always share with Nate. He had become my unofficial mentor as he would offer feedback. In the Fall of 2018, Nate had an opportunity in front of him that would take him to California. He had recommended to Shannon Slemp at Sfumato’s that I continue providing the cheesecake. The truth is, the cheesecake is really one of the cleanest label recipes I have. Meaning that it has very minimal ingredients. I have done only small tweaks with the recipe and ran this by a few taste testers for approval. Any individual can find a ton of great cheesecake recipes, but I believe that process is really what makes the food come to life. It’s a form of tradition, although we are all not family by blood, we can all connect through food. And of course, my cheesecake is always Filled with Love. I would encourage teenagers to align with their parents and even themselves early on about what they want to accomplish. I often ask myself, what is the goal? My mom and dad have been amazing. I have taken over a good portion of the kitchen and have my own baking area, not including the time that I occupy the kitchen! Jada Tirre, student at Le Mars Community High School. I would also recommend finding mentors that are going to show you something beyond an internet video. Yes, you can learn just about anything online today, but that does not replace a face-to-face conversation and hands-on learning. There were about 10 vendors set up for sale at the market. The market had already opened up and we were about 10 or 15 minutes past 9. The storms were supposed to go around us and head north but all of the sudden you could see the clouds rolling in, fast. The winds ended up lifting and ruining about 5 or 6 tents. A ton of vendors products were destroyed or unsalvageable after being thrown on the ground. Everyone was holding onto the tents and helping each other out. There was at least one vendor that was considering opting out of the remainder of the season because of the damage done. I am thinking about how to replace the tents for the vendors that lost their tents and goods. This also has me thinking quite a bit about how Filled with Love can not only benefit myself, but others around me.
