This workshop session focuses on developing
positive and preventive strategies
to effectively guide and facilitate children
and youth’s behavior. The workshop
explores discipline vs. punishment,
advanced discipline methods: natural
consequences and logical consequences
along with creating an organization
Enrichment Activity: Catch Them Being
Good. Just like styles of parenting, every
child care/youth worker has his or her
own style. We will also discuss how your
discipline strategies can impact the
child/youth you serve. Come prepared
to share your successes and concerns
while having fun during this interactive
session.

How to Nurture a Child’s
Developing Mind

Experiences young children receive in
the first five years of life are so important
to brain development, as research shows
about 90% of a child’s brain is developed
during this time. Development of
the brain is influenced by many factors,
including a child’s relationships, experiences
and environment. Learn about
the important role you play in building a
young child’s brain and what you can do
as a teacher and/or child care provider to
best support a child’s healthy development
and growing brain. We will explore
tools and strategies teachers and/or
child care providers can use to address
the impact brain science has on understanding
behavior, development of
young children, and how to support and
nurture a child’s developing mind.

Bullying

Talk it out. Walk it out. Wait it out. In this
workshop you will learn about direct
and indirect bullying, the characteristics
of those who bully and those who are
bullied, as well as the consequences
of bullying. We will also discuss warning
signs and the importance of adult
involvement to end bullying. Also
covered will be how to talk to children
about bullying, how adults may need
to change their thinking about bullying,
and intervention strategies that work.
