Yoga and Young <strong>Children</strong><br />

In this workshop participants will be given a brief introduction to concepts used<br />

in yoga. Participants will learn breathing strategies that they can teach to young<br />

children. These strategies will help children with self-regulation. Specific yoga<br />

poses will be demonstrated, and participants will practice them so they will be<br />

able to use them with young children. Throughout this process participants will<br />

discover the purpose of the pose and how it relates to the <strong>Illinois</strong> Early Learning<br />

and Development Standards and children’s overall development (Social, Emotional,<br />

Cognitive and Physical). This is a very interactive workshop and participants<br />

will spend the majority of their time learning appropriate yoga poses. There will<br />

be small group work, where participants will practice putting a few yoga poses<br />

together that they can use with children immediately. Please dress com<strong>for</strong>tably<br />

and bring a yoga mat or large beach towel.<br />

Move Your Boogie Body<br />

In this workshop participants will learn a variety of ways to provide movement<br />

activities <strong>for</strong> children ages two - school age. A variety of methods will be demonstrated:<br />

movement using music, creative movement, creative dramatics, parachute<br />

play and more. This workshop is interactive and participants will be moving<br />

throughout the time frame. All activities are linked to what children are learning<br />

as they move.<br />

Sharing a Love <strong>for</strong> Music: Movies and Adventures!<br />

Fighting Crime, Riding Dragons, and Flying through Space is a day in the<br />

life of every adventurer, the only thing that would make it better is the<br />

right music to adventure to! This training will help you use the stories your<br />

kids already love to share with them a deeper love of classical music! You<br />

will learn more about movie soundtracks and how to identify some composers<br />

to find similar works <strong>for</strong> all your adventuring needs, while introducing<br />

the most exciting parts of the arts to your children. Let’s make classical<br />

music as fun as it is!<br />

completion of this course meets<br />

DCFS pre-service licensing requirements<br />

<strong>for</strong> home care providers. Licensed providers<br />

will also receive training hours <strong>for</strong><br />

license renewal.<br />
