Creating a Safe and<br />

Productive Space<br />

This interactive workshop is to help<br />

youth workers establish a safe environment<br />

in their program space that<br />

promotes engagement and productivity<br />

with the children. Participants will take<br />

part in small group discussions and demonstrate<br />

how to assess program quality.<br />

In addition, we will explore how to create<br />

structure and guidelines <strong>for</strong> clear limits<br />

in the program space, along with sharing<br />

some best practices in the field.<br />

Fun with Math<br />

An eight-hour math workshop divided<br />

into two four-hour sections each. During<br />

these sessions, participants will explore<br />

the importance of mathematics in children's<br />

lives as a lifelong goal. This training<br />

will be presented through a Power<br />

Point presentation, games, activities,<br />

readings and scenarios to teach mathematical<br />

concepts to children from zero<br />

to five years in a fun and effective way.<br />

Participants will also learn to apply different<br />

strategies and methods based on<br />

appropriate practice <strong>for</strong> development<br />

Guidance and Discipline<br />

In this training we will explore best practice<br />

as it relates to guidance and discipline<br />

of young children and discuss what<br />

discipline means to them. Participants<br />

will discuss the differences between<br />

guidance and discipline, as opposed to<br />

punishment. We will learn about age and<br />

developmentally appropriate behaviors<br />

and expectations <strong>for</strong> children age birth<br />

to five. Participants will discuss the basics<br />

of positive discipline and become familiar<br />

with methods to encourage appropriate<br />

behaviors.<br />
