WOMEN in
BUSINESS
Patti Stobaugh
Owner, PattiCakes Bakery & Stoby‘s Restaurant
Where did you grow up and get your education? I grew up in Perla, AR.
I like to say it’s a suburb of Malvern, which is where I attended school.
What brought you to Faulkner County to open a business/work?
I came to Faulkner County to attend UCA, where I earned a Bachelor of Business
Administration-Finance degree.
What do you love most about working/living here? The thing I love
most about working/living in Faulkner County is that I do both here, and
that’s a blessing. I have seen Faulkner County grow over the 31 years that I’ve
lived here and it’s amazing to see it continue to grow and diversify. I love it
that the county is big enough and small enough at the same time. Faulkner
County is close to everything in the state and that makes day trips possible.
To what do you attribute your success? Jesus, prayer, and
First Security Bank.
Do you have hobbies you want to share? I love to read and
walk nature trails.
How are you involved in your community? I am involved
in with the Faulkner County Single Parents Scholarship Fund. The
Fund awards scholarships to single parents seeking post-secondary
education or certificates in certain skilled-trades. I’m in my second
year of a five-year term with the Conway Planning Commission,
and involved with the United Way of Central Arkansas and the
Pine Street Backpack Program (though not this year).
Are you involved in any professional organizations?
I am a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, a Certified
Financial Education Instructor, and I’m currently working to
become a Certified Credit Counselor through the National
Association of Certified Credit Counselors. In October I will be
attending a conference to become a Certified Community Bank
Compliance Officer.
Tell us about your family. I am single, I have two adult
children, one son, Daimon and one daughter, Tracee and one
GRANDdaughter, Lauryn. I’m the middle daughter of five
girls. My mom still lives in Perla so I get to see her often. We
love hard, laugh hard, and make it past our differences in one
piece… LOL
Any advice for someone just starting out? Take the
time to listen to people who have different life experiences
than you. Absorb the wisdom of your elders. Above all,
have integrity in all that you do.
Where did you grow up and get your education?
San Antonio, TX and UofA-Fayetteville and Lyon College
What brought you to Faulkner County to open a business/
work? I was working in Conway for Arkansas One Call before
meeting my husband, David.
How did you get your idea or concept for your business?
It had been a pipe dream to own a bakery. When my
youngest son left for college, I was so done with the corporate
world. The remainder is history.
What do you love most about working/living in Faulkner County?
The small town unity. Having grown up in a large city, I knew
I would rather live in a more rural setting and visit the city.
Any hobbies you want to share? Grandkids and dogs.
I also love to camp, but haven’t had much time lately.
How are you involved in your community? By trying
to help those in need. At some point in time everyone
needs a break.
Are you involved in any professional organizations?
Retail Bakers of America, Vice President. Chamber
of Commerce, Vice President. Bread Bakers Guild of
America. And the one I’m most proud of, my Cake
Support Group. We are 6 women in the baking
field that are each others biggest supporters.
What does the future hold for you in Faulkner
County? We are in the process of opening another
Conway bakery – PattiCakes Downtown at 1137
Front Street. It’s my last hurrah. And I’m really
serious this time!
Any advice for someone just starting out?
Perseverance and find your tribe of others in a
similar field.
