Food and a View to Die For!<br />

NESTLED on the hillside in Lyttelton is perhaps one of<br />

Canterbury’s best kept secrets - e Lyttelton Club -<br />

also known as the Top Club. But with recent<br />

renovations and a new master chef heading the kitchen,<br />

the word is out!<br />

Situated in the heart of Lyttelton the Top Club boasts<br />

some of the best harbour views in the area - evident the<br />

minute you step foot inside. An open plan bar drops<br />

down to the dining area with oor to ceiling windows<br />

providing a panoramic view. e innovative design and<br />

decor adds to the appeal making it instantly warm and<br />

inviting. What was previously the club restaurant has<br />

been transformed into a snug sports bar with pool table,<br />

TAB and even more amazing harbour views.<br />

e Bistro offers a compact yet diverse range of<br />

meals created by Master Chef Lloyd Millar. With over<br />

40 years experience, Lloyd has a wealth of experience.<br />

Born in Lyttelton and trained in Canterbury, Lloyd’s<br />

career has seen him in many notable kitchens not only<br />

across New Zealand but overseas too, including his<br />

private dining ‘Dinner By Design’ business. Recent years<br />

has seen him based predominately in Banks Peninsula<br />

where he has cooked at local greats including She Cafe<br />

in Governors <strong>Bay</strong>, the Akaroa Wharf Hotel, award<br />

winning Monster Yakitori Bar in Lyttelton, and the<br />

Fishermans Wharf in Lyttelton.<br />

While Lloyd’s food knowledge is extensive, he is<br />

renowned for his skill in Yakitori and for this reason the<br />

Club has installed a charcoal grill. So on the menu is a<br />

great selection of these delicious Japanese style skewers,<br />

as well as classic Sirloin, Ribeye and Italian style Sausage<br />

mains that are served with fries and garden salad. Other<br />

mains options include twice cooked Pork Belly, a choice<br />

of Burgers, Hoki & Chips, Dory Fillet, and a Potato,<br />

Chickpea Tofu Laska. ere is also a good selection of<br />

starters and desserts, as well as a kiddies menu. Gluten<br />

free, vegan and vegetarian options are also available.<br />

And price wise the menu is extremely affordable.<br />

e Bistro also offers regular specials, such as All You<br />

Can Eat Dumplings every Wednesday and a Sunday<br />

Carvery & Dessert at the end of each month.<br />

If you’re planning an event, the Top Club is well<br />

worth considering. Talk to Lloyd about holding a<br />

function. He can design catering to t any budget.<br />

In the bar there’s live coverage of international rugby<br />

with food and beverage specials accompanying All<br />

Blacks games, Housie at 7pm every Tuesday, and a<br />

lucky members draw every ursday at 5.30pm. And if<br />

you enjoy a utter the Club has a 12 machine gaming<br />

room and the one and only TAB facility in Lyttelton -<br />

something to keep in mind with Melbourne Cup and<br />

NZ Trotting Cup coming up next month.<br />
