Congratulations to our people
Recognising our people’s work and achievements
Our Special Thanks and Recognition (STAR) Program supports
our relentless pursuit of excellence by acknowledging and
celebrating individuals and teams who bring to life our guiding
principles. The most outstanding nominees are invited to receive
their awards at the quarterly Senior Leadership Team meeting
held at our Clayton campus. Employees can nominate their
colleagues via an online portal, making it easy and quick to say
thanks and recognise colleagues and teams.
Once a year we recognise outstanding achievement across the
organisation at the Monash Health Awards. In addition to this, our
medical, nursing and midwifery and allied health groups also hold
annual awards to recognise excellence by individuals and teams
within their workforces.
We value and appreciate our employees’ and volunteers’ years
of dedication to the Monash Health mission. In November each
year, we celebrate all the key milestones from 10 to 50 years of
employment and 5 to 25 years of volunteering, acknowledging the
significant contributions that our employees and volunteers make
during their careers.

Winners

Category: Minister for Health’s Award for improving
children’s health.
Escaping to fantasy land: using leading-edge technology
to distract children during medical procedures. Jeff Chen
and the MRI department trialled leading-edge virtual reality
technology to improve childrens’ MRI experience.

Category: Secretary’s Award for improving the
integration of care for patients with chronic and
complex conditions.
A proactive system of care for patients with life-limiting
chronic conditions. Associate Professor Peter Poon and
the Supportive Chronic Conditions Care team developed a
system of care for patients with life-limiting chronic conditions.

Category: Safer Care Victoria compassionate
care award.
Introduction of Schwartz Rounds. Our Patient Experience
team introduced Schwartz Rounds, an initiative from the
Schwartz Centre for Compassionate Care in Boston that
provides a structured forum where clinical and clinical support
employees come together to discuss the emotional and
psychological aspects of working in healthcare.

Category: Improving Indigenous health.
The Healthy Koori Kids Clinic was established to deliver
a comprehensive and culturally informed multidisciplinary
health service for Aboriginal children and young people in
out-of-home-care. The clinic consists of a paediatrician,
psychologist, speech therapist, dental therapist, community
development worker, Aboriginal paediatric nurses and also
includes a care coordination role for families accessing the
clinic.
Victorian Honour Roll of Women
Our Head of Gynaecology, Professor Beverley Vollenhoven, was
inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women this year for
being instrumental in ensuring access to critical reproductive and
women’s health services in Victoria.
Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Dr Robert Stunden, Head of Paediatric Surgery at Casey
Hospital, was recognised for his service to medicine in the
field of paediatric surgery.

Mr Shashi Kochhar, President of Friends of the Children
Foundation and founder of the Walk for Monash Children’s
Hospital, was recognised for his service to the community
through charitable initiatives. The Walk has raised more
than $750,000 over the past six years to help purchase vital
medical equipment.

Category: Excellence in women’s health.
When the ‘Below 100’ project was born! The ‘Below 100’
project was created by Dr Mark Tarrant, Colleen White, Jade
Johnstone and the Casey Maternity Team to reduce the
number of growth restricted babies and stillbirths.
