We work with humility,
respect, kindness and
compassion in high
performing teams
Humility, respect, kindness and compassion are incorporated into
our training, education and service delivery.
We continued to facilitate regular
Schwartz Rounds, giving clinical and
clinical support employees an opportunity
to discuss the social and emotional issues
that arise when caring for patients.
We launched an Equity and Inclusion
Strategy 2018-23, which illustrated our
commitment to reflecting the community
we serve and promoting fair opportunity
and resource for all. Together with our
community, we set strategies and key
actions to improve and enhance our
care. The five focus areas of the strategy
are Aboriginal Health and Employment,
Cultural Diversity, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI),
Disability and Gender.

We implemented a new Aboriginal
Employment Policy, and now have 52
employees who identify as Aboriginal,
an increase of 174 per cent.

Tracey Stephens, our Aboriginal
Midwife, was recognised as HESTA
Midwife of the Year for improving
maternity and healthcare outcomes
for Aboriginal women and babies by
implementing culturally appropriate
and safe maternity healthcare
services.

Our LGBTI subcommittee is
developing and promoting our policies
and protocols in partnership with
LGBTI communities.
We actively promote the right to free
expression of gender and sexuality
in healthcare settings to avoid
discrimination against LGBTI patients.
This is in line with the DHHS Rainbow
eQuality Guide and is endorsed by the
Monash Health Board. The committee
also organised an awareness event
to celebrate International Day Against
Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia
and Transphobia with an open Q&A
session about LGBTI issues.
