In <strong>the</strong> <strong>12th</strong> Parliament, <strong>the</strong>re are thirty-two MPs aged 35 years <strong>and</strong> below. Of <strong>the</strong>se, twenty-seven are elected while five are nom<strong>in</strong>ated; twenty-four are Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly while eight are Senators; <strong>and</strong>, twenty-four are men while eight are women. Mode <strong>of</strong> election <strong>of</strong> <strong>youth</strong> MPs to Parliament Election as Members <strong>of</strong> Parliament represent<strong>in</strong>g counties or constituencies rema<strong>in</strong>s <strong>the</strong> greatest contributor to <strong>youth</strong> gett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to Parliament, account<strong>in</strong>g for 80.4% <strong>of</strong> <strong>youth</strong> MPs <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>11th</strong> Parliament <strong>and</strong> 89.1% <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>12th</strong> Parliament. This is followed closely by <strong>youth</strong> MPs nom<strong>in</strong>ated under <strong>the</strong> provision for nom<strong>in</strong>ated women Senators, <strong>the</strong> provision for nom<strong>in</strong>ated Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> provision for nom<strong>in</strong>ation slots <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Senate for persons represent<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>youth</strong>. <strong>The</strong> latter rema<strong>in</strong>s constant. Overall, <strong>youth</strong> MPs comprised 9.8% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total membership <strong>of</strong> Parliament dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>11th</strong> Parliament <strong>and</strong> dropped to 7.7% dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> term <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>12th</strong> Parliament. <strong>The</strong> largest drop was <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> nom<strong>in</strong>ated <strong>youth</strong> MPs, from ten to five, mark<strong>in</strong>g a 50% drop, with <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> elected <strong>youth</strong> MPs dropp<strong>in</strong>g by 13% from thirty-one to twenty-seven.
