Established in 1928 by the Sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin
Mary (IBVM), Loreto College Coorparoo is an independent Catholic
secondary school for girls. The College is one of more than 150 Loreto
schools throughout the world. Founder Mary Ward, made the prophetic
statement, “women in time to come will do much.” This is integral to the
Loreto philosophy whereby the aim is to liberate, motivate and empower
girls. Mary Ward’s compelling story encourages students to have self-belief
as women, engenders hope and courage and promotes their capacity to
make a difference for good in the world.
The academic curriculum at the College encourages each student to
discover her potential in an atmosphere where excellence is valued, a love
of learning is nurtured and there is a strong emphasis on critical thinking
and student engagement.
From Years 7 to 9, students are provided with a balanced curriculum that
caters for the core areas of learning as well as providing electives that allow
them to explore areas of interest.
In Years 10 to 12, there continues to be a rich and engaging range of
subjects which provides students with a course of study that is flexible,
engaging and designed to suit the needs and ambitions of the students
beyond Year 12.
As experts in girls’ education, staff at Loreto Coorparoo incorporate the ethos
of a 400 year old tradition with innovative pedagogies and technologies for
the 21st century learner in order to support girls toward personal excellence.
