ST URSULA’S COLLEGE
Diverse Offerings Create Life Changing Experiences
Light Vehicle Mechanic, Aquatic Scientist, Jockey, or Jillaroo; St Ursula’s
College, Yeppoon, offers life changing experiences with its diverse curriculum
offerings and the support of local employers.
St Ursula’s Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching, Ms Belinda Connolly,
said the College provided multiple options for students who wanted to either
commence or ‘sample’ careers while still at Secondary School.
“We have 24 Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA)
subjects on offer to current Year 11 students; this assortment of subject
areas caters for a variety of pathways and outcomes,” Ms Connolly said.
“Our students are empowered to be world ready women; change-makers
who engage in sustainable practices within dynamic learning environments.”
“Whenever possible, our College engages with local industry to provide
experience to students, for both ACAA subjects, and Vocational Education
and Training (VET) courses.”
“Aquatic Practices, a QCAA subject, is very appealing to students who want
to pursue careers in the Aquatic Sciences, and utilises our network of local
tourism operators and ready access to the Great Barrier Reef.”
“The practical lessons in Aquatic Practices include Snorkeling and Sailing,
as well as collecting data as part of a Citizen Science program, which is then
uploaded to the Coral Watch website.”
Careers Advisor at St Ursula’s College, Mrs Natasha Oldham, said VET interests
among students resulted in unique opportunities from local providers.
“St Ursula’s students have successfully secured apprenticeships and
traineeships within the Allied Health, Automotive, Track Riding, Rural
Operations, Hospitality, and Tourism fields this year, working with
regional employers who are committed to skilling the next generation,”
Mrs Oldham said.
“Studying in their chosen area while at school sets a strong foundation,
makes them job ready, and builds their capacity for future learning in their
respective sector.”
ST BRENDAN’S COLLEGE
New dedicated Year 7 boarding house at SBC a first for Central Queensland
Unprecedented demand for enrolment at St Brendan’s College, Central Queensland’s
leading boarding and day school for boys in Yeppoon, has prompted the College to
fast-track plans for renovation and redesign of a new boarding residence for 2020
as a dedicated space for Year 7 boarders.
Principal Mr Robert Corboy said plans were well underway to extend the College’s
boarding facilities beyond the three current residences to recommission Wallace
Residence as a modern, inviting space for the youngest students of the College.
“Our master plan includes the addition of Wallace as a Year 7 residence, new
classrooms, a multi-million dollar science and information technology centre and
improvements to our VET and Trade Training Centre over the next few years,” Mr
Corboy said.
“We will welcome more than 250 boarders and our largest total enrolment number
in 2020 so we are pleased that parents and families are supportive of our education
framework based on the specific learning needs of boys, of our Edmund Rice ethos
and our overall education offering.”
“The Wallace accommodation areas are being completely refurbished including
air-conditioning, a new parent and visitor area and common area is being designed;
and this will go hand in hand with a dedicated team of caring staff to support these
young students as they transition from home to boarding life,” he said.
“Boarding can be daunting for a young person, which is why we have made the
decision to offer a unique Year 7 residence to care for our newest students, with
resources to suit the specific needs of young teens.”
“Our message to families who are interested in enrolling their son for 2020 is to
ensure these are submitted as soon as possible to give the best opportunity for
acceptance into St Brendan’s College.”
St Brendan’s College is located on 300-acres at Yeppoon and offers a diverse
curriculum and extra-curricular program for Year 7 to 12 boys.
