BigTown Projects gallery opens with
wood exhibit, summer reading series
Sunday, June 9, 4 p.m.—ROCHES-
TER—BigTown Projects at the Big-
Town Gallery in Rochester is excited
to show work by Paul Bowen once
again, exhibiting “Wood Ledge” in the
Projects Gallery. As the recent group
show, “On Edge,” at the Aldridge
Museum (seven artists, including
Bowen) explored the implications of
boundary in the prescribing of both
circumstance and consequence – so
“Wood Ledge” takes a continuing
look into this increasingly complex,
unsettlingly dramatic dynamic with
boundaries.
This exhibition opens with the first
reading of the Joan Hutton Landis
Summer Reading Series 2019 on June
9 with Nathan McClean and Angela
Palm. Artist talk in the Projects Gallery
begins at 4 p.m. Reading begins at 5:30
p.m. followed by refreshments.
This program is free and open to
the general public, with donations
welcome. BigTown Gallery is located
at 99 North Main St., Rochester.

VINS celebrates National Get Outdoors Day with fairy activities

The Vermont Institute of Natural Science encourages outdoor activity
every day, but welcomes families for National Get Outdoors Day, June 8.

Join VINS on Saturday, June 8 for National
Get Outdoors Day, an annual event to
encourage healthy, active outdoor fun.
What better way to celebrate than going on
a Forest Fairy Hunt!?
Building fairy houses with natural materials
and trekking through the VINS forest
while hunting for fairies offers children and
their families a unique opportunity to connect
with the natural world and to nurture
respect for the environment. Come visit
VINS for an adventure sprinkled with the
magic and wonder of forest fairies with a
visit from the resident Fairy Grandmother
and fairy house building in Fairy Town.
Wearing wings is encouraged!
The event runs 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and is included
with admission to the VINS Nature
Center. The forest fairy hunts and Fairy
Town augment the Forest Exhibit.
VINS is located at 149 Nature’s Way, off

Pawlet library offers free fishing
clinic at Lake St. Catherine

Pawlet Public Library is
hosting a free fishing day
for all ages and skill levels
at Lake St. Catherine State
Park on Saturday, June 8,
10 a.m.-1 p.m. Advance
registration is required,
and children must be accompanied
by an adult.

This Saturday is Free
Fishing Day, designated
by the Vermont Department
of Fish and Wildlife
(VDFW), so you won’t
need a fishing license for
this program. Try your
hand at this new skill or
join in to help teach if you
are experienced. Meet at
Lake St. Catherine State
Park (also free on this day),
3034 Route 30, Poultney,
and Let’s Go Fishing program
volunteer instructor
Richard Mann will teach
youth and adults how to
fish. Participants should
bring their own freshwater
fishing pole if they have
one. A limited number of
fishing poles will be available
at the park, courtesy
of VDFW. Learn about
Vermont’s fish population
and habitat needs, proper
fishing skills and ethics,
respect for the resources,
and responsibility to know
the rules and regulations of
fishing. Wear water shoes
or sandals and bring a
