2017

A large amount of interesting and exciting competitions will take place in 2017.

Right at the start of the year, the USASU Bösendorfer and Yamaha Competition is held in

Tempe (Arizona, USA). One week later, pianists can go to Thessaloniki to compete in the

Giorgos Thymis Competition. In January/March, several competitions will be having

live auditions: the worldwide auditions for a New York Debut, organised by the New

York Concert Artists (NYCA), auditions for the Van Cliburn and the Utrecht Liszt

Competition.

In April/May, the 15 th Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition will be held in Tel

Aviv, partly overlapping with Montreal and the Teresa Carreño Competition in Miami

Beach. A few weeks later, the 15 th Van Cliburn Competition will take place in Fort Worth

(Texas, USA).

In March, young pianists can go to Düsseldorf, where the first International Schumann

Competition for Young Pianists will be held, or they are busy preparing for Århus (one

week later), or for the Krainev Competition in Moscow. In May, those who are under 16

can also go to the 25 th International Chopin Competition in Szafarnia (Poland).

After a short pause, the competition in Lagny-sur-Marne is back again, this time with

three age categories (March). April is also full of competitions: a new one in Leganés

(Spain), five age categories and the finals with orchestra. In Mayenne (France), the 10 th

international piano competition will be held.

In May/June, Italy looks attractive with the competitions in Cantù, San Donà di Piave

(near Venice), Gioia del Colle (10 th Premio Argento) and Massarosa (in Toscane). The

competition in Lyon has expanded and will now have its finals with orchestra.

High prize money is offered again at the Top of the World Competition in Tromsø

(Norway) and in Shenzhen (China), both being held in June. Musicians who excel in the

Classical/Romantic repertoire should consider the Clara Haskil Competition in Vevey.

The new Shigeru Kawai Competition looks also promising (beginning of August).

Pianists who are not in the finals of the Busoni Competition or the Maj Lind Competition

in Helsinki, can enter the ARD Competition in Munich, where they will have to perform a

Mozart Concerto without conductor. Young Mozart lovers may travel to Zhuhai (China).

The Hummel Competition in Bratislava is also attractive.

In October, Tbilisi is calling. Liszt players will probably go either to Utrecht or to Weimar

(or both?), while Chopin is on the repertoire in Darmstadt and Canberra (Australia). The

Suzana Szörenyi Competition in Bucharest is mainly for Piano Duos.

In Bonn, the final chord will be by Beethoven. Tired of travelling? You can then also

upload your performance for one of the online competitions.
