of understanding to begin implementing
initiatives supported by the
country’s Resilient National Energy
Transition Strategy (R-NETS). This
strategy provides a road map for the
country’s energy future over 22 years,
from 2019 to 2040.
All parties committed to accelerate
the development and integration
of more clean energy sources throughout
the Turks & Caicos Islands. The
partnership will advance renewable
energy by building a regulatory
framework, supporting permitting
and planning of renewable energy
projects, assessing resources, integrating
electric vehicles and promoting
energy efficiency.

Utilities and Transportation said,
“TCIG is committed to developing a
clean energy future that will decrease
the Islands’ reliance on imported fossil
fuel, reduce the cost of electricity,
and demonstrate the country’s willingness
to play a lead role in efforts to
combat climate change.”
At the same time, opinions are
being gathered throughout the TCI on
the development of an environmental
strategy that will guide governmental
decisions in the coming years.
The Department of Environment
and Coastal Resources with technical
support from the Joint Nature
Conservation Committee began consultations
in October 2019. Their aim
is to rationalise environmental plans
and activities, ensure effective implementation
of environmental priorities
and support sustainable development.
