In the race to attractand retain talent, Iowa businesseshave the opportunity to innovatearound female- and family-friendlypolicies and benefits to gain acompetitive edge.Iowa’s Workforce Shortage andChild Care Crisis are Interrelated.Three-quarters of Iowa familieswith children under the age of sixhave all available parents workingoutside of the home, yet almost aquarter of Iowans live in an areaundersupplied with licensed orregistered child care options. Theresults paint a clear picture of howworkforce development is hinderedby a lack of child care: of thesefamilies, 65% of parents are lateto work or leave early because ofchild care issues.
