The excitement of the winter
season is upon us and our
villages, homes and shops are
glowing with warm colour. This
issue is packed with festive
treats, but as the Winter issue, it
will take us through until Spring.
We have therefore themed many
of our features around winter and
the uniqueness of this beautiful
season, with a sub-theme
around sustainability and the
planet.
The magazine has always
celebrated the characters and
stories from our villages. One
such character is Major Sir Tasker
Watkins VC. A blue plaque was
recently unveiled in Llandaff to
honour him, so we present a
brief glimpse into the life of this
remarkable man.
Radio producer Bethan Elfyn
has recently made the move
from the BBC Llandaff studios to
the new city centre building. She
speaks of her career in radio and
what the future holds for both
the corporation and her work.
We often look to hunker down
at this time of year but we've
put together a great feature that
will entice you to wrap up warm
and step outside your front door
to the Winter Wonderland that
awaits you.
With the focus on the
sustainability theme, if you're
looking to reduce your own
negative impact on the
environment, we present several
ways you can achieve this -
including over Christmas when
traditionally we create a lot of
waste.
With this in mind and for
those who want to give a gift
a little differently, we highlight
alternative ways to show your
appreciation for loved ones.

A huge variety of stalls, plus outdoor
hot food vans and gazebos selling all
Food is an important part of
the season but it can also be a
time of excess and waste. We've
got some recipes that will help
reduce that waste by making the
most of your leftovers.
There is a heart-warming short
story, kindly written by Alice
Morgan. The story won the
South Wales Echo Christmas
Short Story competition a few
years ago and reminds us to be
grateful for everything we have
this Christmas.
As we turn to welcome in
not only a new year, but a
new decade, we highlight a
psychological model that can
help you effect change.
So, as we say goodbye to
what's gone, let's think about
where we want to be.
