As a Catholic school we provide our students with a moral compass based on Catholic
Social Teaching that supports their growth and development. It is essential that our students
are encouraged to have enquiring minds, ask questions and form their own opinions. We are
blessed with close links with our parishes which allows our students to experience prayer,
worship, charity and social events.
As a faith school, we believe there is more to the purpose of education than producing
strong academic outcomes. Pope Francis wrote that “the mission of schools is to develop
a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful”; therefore, it is of vital importance that our
community of students are given opportunities to develop their physical, moral and intellectual
talents. I hope that this newsletter will give you a flavour of what we are able to offer
at The John Fisher School. If your son has not done so already, I would challenge him to try
something new in 2020. Trying new things and stepping outside of our comfort zone can
help improve our levels of resilience and self-confidence.
Our remembrance events in November helped us remember and pray for those whom we
have lost. Many in our school community have suffered the pain of loss this year, and we
hold them all in our hearts and prayers.
Approaching Christmas, we heard some wonderful choral singing at ours services of lessons
and carols. It always astonishes me how much effort out students and staff in the Music
department put into the various events. From the Bonanza concert and various services to
the numerous performances in the community, I would personally like to thank all of those
involved. The Christmas break will offer the opportunity for some well-earned rest for all
who have given so much during the month of December.
We have enjoyed a rewarding year and I would like to acknowledge the work of staff and
governors in the impressive developments taking place across our school. We still strive to
provide an education which enables our students to grow into well-rounded, reflective, caring
and thoughtful young men ready to take their place in society.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family peace and joy this Christmas
and all the best for the New Year.
With very best wishes.
