Crawford County, Indiana’s 2017 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar Crawford County High School Senior Bree Ann Tyler is honored The Community Foundation of Crawford County (CFCC), along with its Board of Directors and Staff, is pleased to announce Bree Ann Tyler as its 2017 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar (LECS). The LECS Program offers this scholarship each year through Indiana’s network of community foundations. The LECS program provides a four-year, full-tuition scholarship along with a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment to any Indiana college or university. Tyler is a senior at Crawford County High School and will be pursuing a degree in Radiation Therapy in the fall of 2017. Tyler’s parents are Brad and Patricia Tyler of Leavenworth, Indiana. All Crawford County senior level students were invited to apply. The community foundation’s scholarship committee used a double-blind approach to review the applications, and the nominee and alternates were then approved for submission by the CFCC Board of Directors to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI), the statewide scholarship administrator for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program. ICI then had final approval of the entire process. ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state. The scholarship is the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest states in percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree. The CFCC was founded in April 1998 by a volunteer Board of Directors that represented a variety of interests from Crawford County. To date, the CFCC has awarded nearly $6 million in grants for programs/projects supporting Crawford County children and youth, education, housing, health and human services, the environment, technology advancements, literacy and the arts, and has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships benefiting Crawford County students.
