CWEA (Canterbury Workers Educational
Association) has programmed a number
of one off and “have a go” sessions for it’s
first term. From Middle Eastern Dance
to Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arranging),
from Compassionate Communication to
How to “De-plastic your home” you can
sign up for these and many other one off
The start of a new year is the ideal
opportunity to get inspired to get out and
learn something new and meet some new
people? Papanui High School is offering
a wide range of Nightclasses for Term 1 so
why not begin 2020 by taking some time
for yourself and join one of our courses.
Classes for Term 1 begin from Monday
10 February and the options are extensive
from Art to Yoga and everything in
between we are sure regardless of your
age or interest you will find something
to tempt you. Classes at Papanui High

Term 1, 2020 nightclasses
We have a number of new courses on
offer for Term 1, which complement
our usual range. Cake Decorating, Oil
Painting, Portrait Drawing, Guitar and
Ukulele for Improvers, Cooking for those
with Dietary needs eg Vegan, Gluten Free
etc, Special Effects Make-up, 3D Printing,
Video Production, Millinery, and a couple
of courses for the Home Decorator one on
Plastering and the other on Wallpapering.

christchurch School of Music
Christchurch School of Music (CSM)
has offered high quality music tuition and
ensembles to Cantabrians for 65 years,
with many of its alumni now performing
in orchestras, bands and choirs across New
Zealand and the world.
“From an engaging preschool
programme to high quality adult tuition
and everything in between, CSM caters
to everyone aged from 2 to 92, whatever
their level of playing or singing” says Music
Director Celia Stewart.
It offers tuition in all orchestral
instruments, recorder, ukulele, guitar,
piano and voice, and musicianship classes.
A wide range of ensembles includes
orchestras at every level; two choirs; wind,
guitar and recorder ensembles; chamber
music; jazz combo; concert band; big band;
and rock bands.
CSM’s outreach programme takes tutors
into schools to offer strings, band, ukulele,
recorder and percussion tuition.
“The school is a place where all the
family can learn and enjoy being part of
an ensemble at their level,” says Celia “It
is always wonderful to see a mother and
daughter playing in the same orchestra.
There is a strong sense of community on
a Saturday with music coming from every
space.”
Saturday and after school tuition will
take place starting in 2020 at Linwood
College on the old Avonside Girls’ High
site on Avonside Drive.
CSM offers a range of performing
opportunities from solo recitals, regular
soirees to its annual Showcase.
“CSM has an important role to play,
regardless of whether students go on to
become professional musicians, or listeners
with a well-grounded knowledge and love
of music,” says Celia, who started at the
then Christchurch School of Instrumental
Music as a six year old and has worked in a
wide range of roles within the School.
The school has always championed the
recorder, a beautiful instrument in its own
right as well as a great starting instrument
so it is offering a very special deal. For
just $52 a year, students receive a quality
instrument, a tutor book and group tuition
with excellent tutors for the full year.
