PEGASUS POST Latest Canterbury news at starnews.co.nz Tuesday February 11 2020 7 News Big turnout for Brighton event THOUSANDS OF people were at Thomson Park for the 10th I Love New Brighton festival on Waitangi Day. More than 30 community groups were showcased through have-a-go activities including sports, circus tricks and a police vehicle speed detection device. The main stage started with a kapa haka performance and also featured the Natural Magic Pirates and band Hypnumb. It was the first year of the event since Thomson Park was upgraded with a new basketball court. The event was funded by local business sponsors and the Coastal- Burwood Community Board. COLOURFUL: Activities including face painting kept people entertained. PALS: Leilani Thomson and a furry friend. FUN: Georgia Willems gets into the spirit of the event. CULTURAL: The festival started with a kapa haka performance.
