He thenstood down from<br />
driving for the lasttime, 61<br />
years after starting.<br />

withalife membership.<br />
Aside fromLions, he has<br />
beeninvolvedinthe Waipara<br />
FireBrigade, the WekaPass<br />
RailwaySociety, Scouts and<br />
the Waipara Residents’<br />
Association.<br />
He helped buildthe local<br />
tennis courts, the first fire<br />
station, the memorial halland<br />
the scout den.<br />
He was greenkeeper at the<br />
local golf courseand looked<br />
after the domainfor <strong>26</strong> years.<br />
Mr Henderson was acharter<br />
member of theLions Club,<br />
formed in 1981, and, along<br />
withhis fourgallonkerosene<br />
tin,was afamiliar figure at the<br />
club’s annual potatopicking<br />
fixture. Just threeyears ago he<br />
was still keentohelp plantthe<br />
club’s fundraising pumpkins.<br />
