Anzac Day marked
under lockdown
This year commemorating Anzac
Day was very different to past years
due to Covid 19 Level 4 Lockdown.
However, Cashmere High School
students did not let that stand in
their way.
Our Head Students co-ordinated
a personal Anzac Day memorial
comprising an address from the
Principal, poems, a prayer, and the
National Anthem presented by our
Music Department. For the anthem,
each musician individually recorded
their part at home and these were
edited and mixed by our Head Boy,
Cameron Hudson.
The event featured on our
website, Facebook page and even
made it on to TVNZ One News.

Rowers bring medals home
Rowing, in its eighth season at
Cashmere High School, has had a very
successful year. At one of the season’s
major regattas, the South Island
Championships, Cashmere won Gold in
the Boys Novice Eight, pictured above,
and Gold in the Boys Novice Four. There
were also three bronze medals in the
Girls U17 Single Scull, Girls U18 Quad,
shown in action at right, and Boys U18
Double.

US scholarships
Congratulations to
Martina Conner, left,

right, (both Year 13
students last year) who
have been awarded
full scholarships to
American universities
(Utah and Hartford
respectively). It is
uncertain when they
will be able to travel
to the USA to take up
the scholarships but we
wish them all the best.
Young writer’s
skill recognised
We are very
excited to
announce that
Hannah Daniell
(Year 12) has
been awarded
a New Zealand
Society of Authors
(NZSA) Youth
Mentorship for
2020. This is quite
an achievement
as only four are
awarded each
year.
Family scoops athletic cups
Students have recently returned to rehearsals in preparation
for their showing of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical,
Sweeney Todd.
The show will be presented over four nights from Monday
September 21 to Friday September 25. Tickets will be available
on eventbrite from the end of July. This will be the first major
performance offered in Cashmere High School’s recently
completed McCombs Performing Arts Centre – offering an
entertainment experience like no other.

At our recent Athletics Day the Pratten family dominated the
girls events with Gracie (Year 11) winning the Senior Girls,
Esther (Year 10) winning the Intermediate Girls and Leah
(Year 9) winning the Junior Girls.
