GENEROUS: Lincoln High School year 11 social studies students
are attempting what they call the school’s biggest food drive yet.
Students organise
massive food drive
LINCOLN HIGH school is
attempting to fill a trailer load
of donated goods to give to the
Christchurch City Mission.
The school is asking not only
students to help with their mission
but the wider community as
well.
About 700 donated items
were collected from students on
Wednesday last week.
A drop-off point was also set
up for the community at Lincoln
New World on Saturday.
The initiative is being led by
the year 11 social studies class
with help from the school’s services
council.
The idea came from the
increased demand food banks
around the country are reporting
since Covid-19.
As well as the usual cans
and non-perishable food
items, the school is also asking
for donations of food for full
meals.
Teacher Lana Werahiko said
they will also be confidentially
delivering the food to people in
need within the community.
“Covid-19 has been hard on
many in our community and
these young people are wanting
to support all of Canterbury
by donating these goods to the
Christchurch City Mission.”
The donated items which are
expected to be dropped off this
week.
GROUNDWORK: Work on the Rolleston health hub is progressing with concrete
foundations poured last week. District council property group manager Douglas Marshall
said the ground floor slab will be poured in three stages. The first pour was completed last
Wednesday and the second is due on July 1. The final pour is expected on or around July
15. Precast concrete panels are expected to arrive at the site today. Major structural steel
elements will start to arrive in late August 2020. The $14.8 million facility is being built on
land directly opposite the district council offices, next to the St John ambulance base.
New
entrant
Esther Burns has started
at Leeston Primary School
after turning five during
the Covid-19 lockdown.
GOOD CAUSE: Goods donated from the students and the
wider community will be packed into a trailer and presented to
the Christchurch City Mission.
