PRESENTATIONS/AWARDS Mr. Houser: We are going to start off with the STAR Awards and Outstanding Student Awards. Dr. McMahon? Dr. McMahon: Thank you, everybody. Can everybody hear me? Mr. Rivers, can you hear me? Excellent. Before I start my presentations I would like to say that for all of you who have attended these meetings over the years the Barnegat Township School system is very proud of the fact that when we hire people here, or people work here or if you are a member of the community like Mr. Rivers and the VFW, everybody deeply cares about everybody in the community. I would just like you to know that today we had a memorial service for one of our teachers at the Brackman School. Is Mr. Nichol here? Marilyn Ferguson, one of our teachers, who I cannot speak highly enough about, passed away a number of weeks ago. I think she battled cancer I think it was seven or eight years. Outstanding woman, who cared for children beyond belief and had the strength of somebody that I would love to emulate. She was an outstanding individual, so if we could just take a couple seconds for a moment of silence for Marilyn Ferguson. I thank you for that and I know that Marilyn’s soul is with us here today and I think the awards I am going to give out tonight exemplifies a lot of how Marilyn felt about the district and our children. STAR AWARDS AND OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARDS Each and every month any member of the school district can give out an award to a student for doing something exemplary for someone in the district and that is what she embodied in everything she did. She was a wonderful individual. Those awards are then put into a box and each month we pick out a winner who receives a bicycle on behalf of the district. The first child that I am going to award tonight is an outstanding student from the Horbelt School. This student showed compassion for other people. In March while the Horbelt School collected pennies for students from Pennies for Patients Drive to benefit people with leukemia and lymphoma, this person donated, and first grade, an outstanding $94.03 to the cause. We commend this child on their kindness, is Mr. Kiewe with us? Scott could you come up too and help me give this out? We congratulate this student for being an outstanding person, and outstanding student and a member of this community, please welcome Tristan Percelli. Tristan that is wonderful, congratulations, you are a nice boy. Do you have anything to say to the crowd? Tristan Percelli: Thank you for letting me have this opportunity to give this money to the children and please give a round of applause to Mr. Kiewe for even making that true. Our second award winner is a student at the Collins School. This student demonstrated exceptional kindness in the month of April. A girl at the Collins School was using a walker to get around the building because of her disability and upon seeing her, this child immediately offered to help her carry her lunch as well as accompanying her down the hallways to make sure she would not have to walk by herself. I think that is an outstanding show of compassion for other people; and I think that is something that everyone should emulate and I would like to give this award to Collins School student, Mr. Delaporte could you come up here and help me out, to Anthony Russo from the Collins School for the April Star Award winner. Anthony, congratulations, nice job. Do you want to say something to the crowd? Anthony does not want to say something to the crowd, excellent Anthony, thanks, thanks very much. We have to get a picture of Mr. Delaporte. Last but not least, our final award winner is a student from the Dunfee School, is Mrs. Makela here this evening, Kathy come on up. This student showed tremendous integrity during the month of May. During recess this student found a $10.00 bill on the ground on the playground and while many others may have tried to pocket the money, this child immediately turned it into the office so the person who lost it could get it back. We commend this student for choosing to do the right thing always and to think of others. We congratulate him for being the Star Award winner for May, please a big round of applause for Joshua Fink. That was very nice of you Joshua. Would you like to say something to the crowd? No, thank you very much, please take a picture with Kathy, that is wonderful. Not only do we have outstanding students at the elementary school level, but they also exist at the middle school and high school level. This month I would like to honor students at the Brackman School, Mr. Nichol will you join me? This student is an eighth grader at the Brackman School; they were nominated for the Harvard teachers for her progress throughout the year. This person always put forth the most effort she could and by the word of her teachers, her work was exemplary. She is noted for her creativity and focus and it is no wonder this child is the winner for March, please give a round of applause for Stefanie Testa. The next student at Brackman is also an eighth grader; this student is being honored for his diligence in his studies and cooperative attitude toward his teachers. Always focused and respectful this child is a shining example of how a student should be and has served as a role model for all the students in his grade. We congratulate this student for being our April winner Maximo Manqual. Our next student from Brackman School continues to do her best throughout the academic year. As an eighth grader this child consistently contributed knowledge and inquisitive remarks to her classroom discussions. Her teachers describe her as respectful to her teachers and her peers. Please a big round of applause for Kerri Jablonski. Can I ask Dr. Saxton to come up as well? We also have winners for the last three months from Barnegat High School. This child is a member of our first graduating class; he is described by his teachers and peers as being kind, compassionate and considerate.
