d. their knowledge of community based programmes and work with central and local<br />

government agencies and commercial sponsors;<br />

e. their knowledge of, and experience in, community, sports and/or not for profit<br />

organisations generally;<br />

f. the need for conflicts of interest to be minimised;<br />

g. the need for a wide range of skills and experience on the Board including skills in<br />

commerce, finance, marketing, law or business generally;<br />

h. the desire for gender balance; and<br />

i. the need for the Board as a whole to have knowledge of or experience in Surf Life<br />

Saving.<br />

18.8 Relevant Factors for Independent Appointed Board Members: Before deciding to appoint<br />

an Independent Appointed Board Member, the Board Appointments Panel shall take into<br />

account the following factors about the applicants and the Board as a whole:<br />

a. their prior experience as a director, trustee or experience in any other governance role;<br />

b. if they are vacating office as an Independent Appointed Board Member after serving<br />

their first term on the Board and seeking re-appointment, the recommendation of the<br />

other Board Members as to whether they should be re-appointed without needing to go<br />

through the application process in Rules 18.6b to 18.6d;<br />

c. their occupational skills, abilities and experience;<br />

d. their knowledge of community based programmes and work with central and local<br />

government agencies and commercial sponsors;<br />

e. their knowledge of, and experience in, community, sports and/or not for profit<br />

organisations generally;<br />

f. the need for conflicts of interest to be minimised;<br />

g. the need for a wide range of skills and experience on the Board including skills in<br />

commerce, finance, marketing, law or business generally;<br />

h. the desire for gender balance; and<br />

i. the need for some members of the Board to be independent of Surf Life Saving.<br />

18.9 Restrictions on Activity: No member of the Board Appointments Panel may seek<br />

appointment as a Board Member whilst a member of the Board Appointments Panel.<br />

18.10 Meetings: The Board Appointments Panel shall meet as and when required and in such<br />

manner as it thinks fit.<br />
