Campaign backs
local businesses
A‘‘Show the Loveand Shop Local’’campaign has been
launched by AmberleyNZ to promote businessesand
buildonashift to supporting homegrownenterprises.
AmberleyNZ’s chairwoman Claire Inkson says it is
aimedatgivingAmberley businesses amuchneeded
boostand encouragingNorth Canterbury locals to
spendtheir moneyasclose to home as possible.
‘‘ThemajorityofAmberley businesses are boutique,
unique and locally owned. Our business owners
deeply appreciateevery time localschoose to shop
with them, and the relationships theybuild with their
customersisjust so special.
‘‘Youdon’t get that online, and you don’t get thatin
achain store,’’she says.
Claire saysthe businesses have investedinthe
community. They donatetofundraisersand sports
teams, andgoout of theirway to provide the best
productsand services for locals. ‘‘It’s avital, symbiotic
relationship thatweneed to value,’’she says.
The campaign will include asocial media
campaign, signage around the town and merchandise
thatcan be boughtfrom the AmberleyNZ store.
Locals are encouraged to get behind the campaign
by sharing the socialmedia posts, recommending and
shouting out to their favouritebusinesses.
Claire saysfor many small firms it will be along
road to recovery, with some having already closed.
‘‘Thestrength of the economy going forward is
precarious, and when wage subsidies finally runout,
the fragilityofsome businessesmay lead to further
closures. One of the positive aspects of lockdown,
however, is agreaterappreciation by the general
public of small business, and an understanding of how
vital thosebusinessesare to rural towns.’’
