More than 85 staff members work on the B6/6 <strong>in</strong>patient<br />
unit – a unit for those need<strong>in</strong>g to be hospitalized dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
their cancer treatment. The unit is staffed by a dedicated<br />
team <strong>of</strong> experienced oncology nurses, social workers,<br />
nutritionists, <strong>and</strong> pastoral care staff to provide for the<br />
physical <strong>and</strong> spiritual needs <strong>of</strong> all patients.<br />

visits with Dr. Maoquan Zhou, a postdoctoral fellow <strong>in</strong><br />
his lab. Thorson’s lab is focused on discover<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong><br />
develop<strong>in</strong>g naturally-based products <strong>in</strong>to anticancer<br />
drugs, then help<strong>in</strong>g translate those discoveries <strong>in</strong>to<br />
patient therapies.<br />

Tomotherapy was developed at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Wiscons<strong>in</strong>-Madison. This newfound precision <strong>in</strong> radiation<br />
therapy m<strong>in</strong>imizes damage to healthy tissue <strong>and</strong> helps<br />
patients avoid many side effects.<br />
