The McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at the<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Wiscons<strong>in</strong>-Madison was founded by Dr. Harold<br />
P. Rusch <strong>in</strong> 1940 <strong>and</strong> was the first basic science cancer<br />
center <strong>in</strong> an academic <strong>in</strong>stitution <strong>in</strong> the United States.<br />
The current staff <strong>of</strong> the McArdle Laboratory numbers<br />
approximately 200. The 23 faculty <strong>and</strong> emeritus faculty lead<br />
19 research groups that <strong>in</strong>clude 64 graduate students, 18<br />
postdoctoral fellows, <strong>and</strong> 49 research specialists or other<br />
academic staff.<br />
