The Chess Championship was held<br />
on December 13 th at Hawaii<br />
<strong>University</strong>, with the participation of<br />
16 teams. The NDU team took 3 rd<br />
place. It was composed of Elias<br />
Nassar, Charbel Saad, Elie Abou<br />
Jaoudeh, Rabih Samara and Joseph<br />
Daou.<br />
The Table Tennis Championships, for<br />
men and women, also were held on<br />
the campus of Hawaii <strong>University</strong> on<br />
December 13 th , with the participation<br />
of 52 men players from different<br />
universities. Mark Osta of NDU took<br />
second place. In the women’s championship<br />
26 players took part; Rana<br />
Marsha of NDU came 3 rd .<br />
NDU Table Tennis and Chess<br />
Tournaments<br />
Between January 16 th and 23 rd , the<br />
Sports Office held a table tennis<br />
tournament and a chess tournament<br />
for students of NDU. 36 men and 12<br />
young ladies took part in the table<br />
tennis, the results of which were as<br />
follows:<br />

The tournaments were supervised<br />
by the NDU Director of Sports Mr.<br />
George Nader with the help of the<br />
Assistant Director of the Sports<br />
Office Mr. Elias Boutros, the Table<br />
Tennis Instructor Mr. Michel<br />
Rizkallah and Chess Instructor Mr.<br />
Hassan al-Jindi. Medals were distributed<br />
to the winners by the<br />
Director of the Student Affairs Office<br />
General Elias Hanna, Assistant<br />
Director Dr. Ziah Fahed, Sports<br />
Office Director Mr. George Nader<br />
and Assistant Director Mr. Elias<br />
Boutros.<br />
Chess instructor Mr. Hassan al-Jindi with the winners of the Chess Tournament.<br />
22 players took part in the chess tournament, which followed Swiss regulations.<br />
There were six sessions, each of which lasted one hour, allowing 30<br />
minutes for each player’s moves. They took place on January 16th , 20th , 21st and 23rd . The points gained by the leading players were as follows:<br />
1st Elie Abou Jaoudeh 5 points; 2nd Sharbel Saad 5 points; 3rd Elias Nassar<br />
5 points; 4th Oliver Rashwan 4.5 points; 5th Sharbel Abboud 4.5 points;<br />
6th Rabih Samara 4 points; 7th Anthony Taouk 4 points; 8th Joseph Daou<br />
3 points; 9th Sharbel Briady 3 points; 10th Albert Sadeq 3 points;<br />
11th Bedros Shamelian 3 points; 12th Ziad Abboud 2.5 points.<br />

Due to weather conditions, games and tournaments due to be held in<br />
recent weeks were postponed as follows:<br />
