LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Welcome to the first issue of 360 GRADI, the magazine in Italian
and English on Second Life, readable both on Yumpu and inworld
wearing it as HUD.
I thought of a magazine that would be quickly accessible to
anyone and, at the same time, interactive.
I am sure that 360
GRADI will evolve
together with its
contributors and
readers, creating a
community that loves
to read, that is curious
and attentive to new
things, eager to share
information, and that,
above all, helps each
other.
The respective link accompanies any reference to places, people,
and objects, also clickable by HUD, which will give the reader the
possibility to zip, open a web page, pick up an item, watch a video,
and much more.
I believe that the usability of a magazine on Second Life directly
inworld is the key to effective communication and can be the
beginning of creating a community that loves to confront, discuss,
and grow together.
I’m sure that 360 GRADI will evolve together with its contributors
and readers, creating a community that loves to read, that is
curious and attentive to new things, eager to share information,
and that, above all, helps each other.
I could conclude with the classic phrase that you read everywhere:
“no drama,” but I think it is taken for granted and that those who
read me know it all too well. 360 GRADI aspires to a constructive
community and not demolishing the projects and ideas of others.
I can afford an exceptional team of collaborators who, I can assure
you, are seriously committed to this communicative project.
I also expect collaboration from readers. I would like the were
an active part, suggesting, commenting, and expressing their
thoughts. I want to thank all those who have supported us on
social networks by spreading the news of the 360 GRADI birth.
Happy reading, for now, I hope to have your news soon!
WELCOME
A natural part of my work involves arranging interviews and
coordination, researching and collecting opportunities for
partnerships, establishing and maintaining relationships with
journalists, influencers, and bloggers, and supporting the team
members of my client in communicating and running a campaign.
Through years of experience with social media management, which
always requires excellent communication, presentation, leadership
skills, and excellent organizational and time management skills, I
have become self-critical and am still interested in new impulses.
Learning, be it self-directed or through knowledge of apt sources, is
part of the daily process.
Observations and reflections (self-reflection) of the external and
internal situations give me the chance to recognize problems and
change them positively.
I am a positive but also critical thinker and analytical problem solver
who - with a lot of empathy - accepts conflicting interests, personal
(in) tolerance, and others’ opinions. I am very adaptable and willing
to compromise to get positive alternatives that make everyone happy
and lead to the desired success.
My top ten topics of interest are fine art, photography, design, digital
art, music, performing arts, literature, science, mindfulness, and a
positive attitude.
I feel very honored and proud of the trust that Oema has placed in
me and invited me in my role as PR to act for magazines from the first
FLORENCE
Among the most
stands out.
The region was created
Among the most beautiful destinations
in Second Life recently realized,
certainly stands out Florence At Low
Tide.
Maybe it’s because the style is Italian,
as the name suggests, perhaps it’s
because I like environments that
enhance nature in a particular way, in
Florence I feel at home.
I confess that I had fun with the same
enthusiasm as a child in making this
article’s photos. Going to Florence,
The creator designed Florence for photography: this
is evident not only for the Flickr group specially
created for the images taken there but also for how
she positioned the objects that decorate the region.
16 360 GRADI

The visitor can
walk through
the region or get
up in the air.
listening to the
environment’s sounds
relaxes me as if I were
really in that beautiful
context.
The region was created
by Iska (sablina) and
is the home of Gnaaah
Xeltentat and Tomaso
Franizzi.
The region has its group
for fans called the Lunar
Sea.
The author designed
Florence for photography:
this is evident not only
for the Flickr group
specially created for
the images taken there
but also for how she
positioned the objects
that decorate the
region. The author has
created angles from
any perspective and
angle, giving life to an
autonomous scene, easy
to frame, making the
mind and imagination fly.
The visitor can walk
through the region or get
up in the air: I chose to
explore it on foot to allow
me to catch corners that
would otherwise have
escaped my attention
with a hurried flight.
The choice of vegetation,
houses, and furnishings
is made with care to
make the Italian setting
credible.
Also, the general light
settings and colors’
intention is convincing
and facilitates the
realization of beautiful
360 GRADI
17

The houses, in typical Tuscan style, are the
splendid creations of 8f8.
images, even without a
particular graphic correction.
If the pc allows it, I suggest the
reader explore it using Black
Dragon Viewer and Advanced a
RenderVolumeLODFactor equal
to at least 4. This correction will
let you see all the meshes well
without losing the definition in
the distance.
The landing point is located in
the southern part of the region
and facilitates access to the
main road that allows the foot
visit.
The choice of vegetation, houses, and
furniture is made with care to make the
Italian setting credible.
Walking along the dirt road,
you will see the typical Italian
vegetation: apple trees, grape
crops, pines, firs, and many
plants that have covered
themselves with the colors of
autumn.
Bridges, little rivers, small boats
left on the shore without any
particular order: these are all
details that make the Italian
landscape credible.
Besides the vegetation, the
fauna is rich and relevant to
the landscape: cormorants, red
crown cranes, horses, rabbits,
deer, and seagulls cheer the visit
to Florence.
Another corner of the region
that I enormously appreciated
is the car repair store. When
my visit is empty, I hope that
the author will also enrich this
part of the area with details.
However, I realize that being
a homestead, Florence cannot
18 360 GRADI

host a sufficient number of
primes to define it as detailed as
it would deserve.
The houses, in typical Tuscan
style, are the splendid creations
of 8f8. Ancient crumbling walls,
simple but emotionally impactful
home settings make Florence
one of my favorite Second Life
photography regions.
STRUKTURO
IN SECOND LIFE
Tia Rungray
STRUKTURO
Emblem of mental
deconstruction.
32 360 GRADI

THE SIGNIFIED
STRUKTURO creeps into the mind to “break the patterns,” to
destroy any residual conditioning, the habit of thought, dogma, or
existential referment resulting from a pre-packaged truth and not
consciously chosen.
Among the most exciting
destinations in Second
Life in September, there
is, without a doubt,
STRUKTURO.
The creator is Tia
Rungray (tialer.mimulus),
Japanese, who calls
himself an “artist of
classical music and noise”
in his profile.
I confess that this is a
definition that I had never
heard before and even
the musical art of Tia
Rungray is utterly new to
me.
Before exploring
Rungray’s destructuralist
thinking, I warn those
who decide to explore
STRUKTURO to activate
sounds: since it is a
sound installation,
listening is essential.
As the author himself suggests,
STRUKTURO is the emblem of mental
deconstruction.
As the author himself
suggests, STRUKTURO
is the emblem of the
destructuring of the
human mind. The very
fact of uniting classical
music with ferocious
noise, blending them,
makes us realize that
the sound installation’s
theme is destructuring,
the antithesis of
harmony, serenity,
and peace of mind.
The listener finds
himself immersed in
madness because he
360 GRADI
33

finds himself listening
to splendid classical
music interrupted by an
annoying noise that, of
course, has nothing to do
with the harmony of the
classical piano.
What is meant by
destructuring, and what
does the artist want to
communicate?
By destructuring, we
mean “the abandonment
of specific structures
conditioning an organism
or a mental dress to give
life to a more rational
organization or attitudes
more appropriate to
the changing times”.
Since the destruct to
which Rungray refers is
mental, the reference
to mental dress
abandonment seems to
be the most suitable to
this destabilizing sound
experience.
STRUKTURO creeps into
the mind to “break the
patterns,” to destroy any
residual conditioning, the
habit of thought, dogma,
or existential referment
resulting from a prepackaged
truth and not
consciously chosen.
To better understand
STRUKTURO, we should
begin to ask ourselves:
why do I behave in
this way and not,
for example, in this
other, perfectly suited
to another person?
The answer will be
something similar
to “because I have
certain values, ways
of thinking, mental
habits that result from
years of education and
experience.”
I want to point out
from the beginning
that when we talk
about mental habits,
we are not referring
to considerations of
value, such as “I behave
like this because I
am a good person,
while Tizio behaves
like this because
he is a bad person.”
More than ever in this
sound experience, it
is essential to detach
from considerations
of a generic and even
trivial nature like those
just mentioned. Instead,
it becomes imperative
to open the mind to a
broader vision, which
also embraces the
reasons for a particular
way of thinking and
acting. It also becomes
essential, in my opinion,
regardless of value
evaluations, because
the value is often the
most tenacious anchor
to mental habit.
STRUKTURO is, therefore,
destabilization, breaking
mental patterns. The
first thought that comes
to my mind is the need
to “break old habits of
thought” in the name
of an adaptation, and
adaptation to a rapidly
changing era. “Who stops
is lost,” in short.
Sometimes, I imagine
how my grandparents
would live today if they
would adapt to modern
thinking. The answer is
obvious: no. I remember
my grandmother, who
resisted longer in life
than my grandfather, not
adapting to the changing
times and suffering a
great deal watching the
news. She told me that
my great-grandmother
could not see the
information on television
because she cried as
soon as she heard some
crime news.
So STRUKTURO suggests
to adapt to the times
and become insensitive
opportunists, without
empathy and values to
follow? Here too, the
answer is no. Having
an open mind and
understanding that
34 360 GRADI

there are infinite reasons
behind a behavior or a
way of thinking does
not mean “losing one’s
compass of values” to
adapt to the changing
times. If anything, it
means broadening our
empathy to embrace our
understanding of mental
structures that we do not
share, without expiring in
pure and straightforward
judgment.
Finally, I leave the useful
references for those who
want to explore more the
communicative capacity
of Rungray.
Modern times perhaps
require a broader analysis
grandparents were used
to do.
I don’t know what
impressions the reader
will have. Still, after a few
minutes, I had to turn off
the sounds during the
article’s writing because
the disharmony of the
noise that interrupts the
classical music hindered
my concentration.
I don’t think that there is an absolute definition of
Art. Still, this short, famous quote represents the
path that I will propose in this section dedicated
to Art: together we will know the artists active
in Second Life and their works, we will discover
the study, the conceptual elaboration, and the
artistic technique that gave rise to the creations;
each of us will be able to listen to the whispering
SHAPES AND EMO
“The passion for photography and the
curiosity of experimenting led me to
create in 3D what I had done years
before in 2D”.
“The passion for
photography and a desire
to experiment led me
to reproduce in 3D the
artworks I made before in
2D.”
In this short sentence the
artist expresses his entire
universe, he does not need
more words to describe his
long artistic journey because
it is really the passion
that costantly inspires
him and shines through
his artworks; from the
moment he joined Second
Life, completely unaware of
what this virtual world was,
that seemed mysterious
enough to him to suggest
his own name… “Mistero”,
his strong motivation
towards photography and
Images opened incredible
TIONS
horizons for him, allowed
him to evolve his art to the
fantastic mesh creations
that we can now admire.
I wish to thank Mistero
for giving me the freedom
to interpret his artworks
by observing them, this is
the true meaning of Art:
to realize something that
allows the observer to
interpret, to imagine, to
create something original to
himself/herself.
The digital creations of
Mistero are veritable
sculptures and tell countless
stories: everyone can find
their own story awakening
memories and dormant
feelings, or imagining a new
one created by their own
sensibility.
Even the titles of his
works are very evocative
and are an integral part
of them: they were born
spontaneously or were
inspired by listening to a
song, as well as for the
particular name of its land “I
live and walk upside down”,
Every detail therefore offers
a reason for interest and
involves the imagination.
LIFE... WILL WANT TO LEARN
Observing his creations we
cannot remain indifferent:
the essential naked bodies,
white or delicately colored,
that offer contrasts of lights
and shadows do not allow
distractions, you focus your
attention on the shapes
and poses that bodies take,
caught in a moment of life,
you are enchanted by the
vision of some parts that
disperse in fragments, or
are chained in thin threads
360 GRADI
like cobwebs while your
mind follows unexpected
thoughts, your feelings
awaken and reach a surreal,
dreamlike dimension.
The digital art of Mistero
gives us emotions through
the composition of
evocative scenes, the
enchantment of the bodies
shapes and the intense
expressions of faces:
anger, hopelessness, pain
associated with a loss or
separation.
It explores the essence
of the human condition:
loneliness, lack of
communication but also
encounter, passion and love.
A magnificent celebration
of life, grasped in all its
aspects, this is therefore the
art of Mistero.
His artworks are exhibited in
his famous gallery Digital Art
- Cammino e Vivo Capovolto,
Retrospect.
From there, taking the
teleport, you can reach the
ground level where you can
walk and interact with his
art immersed in a charming,
evocative atmosphere
where water is the
dominant element, reflects
the shapes and caresses
them with drops of rain.
Recently Mistero opened
another exhibition space,
absolutely not to be missed.
MUSIC
Head Column
If I were not an architect in life, I would probably be a
musician.
I think in music.
I live my daydreams in music.
I see my life in terms of music.
Since 2009 in Second Life, I try to share this emotion
with others.
As editor and music consultant for 360 GRADI, I would
like to shed light on an often underestimated world, but
which is instead one of the main activities in the “second
life.”
The message in music arrives more efficiently at its
destination, touching the most intimate and personal
chords, without the need for other intermediaries in
communication.
In the variegated musical world of Second Life, I will
deal with emerging artists and those who are now well
established and often do not know each other well
enough.
I take advantage of this space to give some point of
reference in the music scene of Second Life because
“people consume music as if it were a handkerchief for
the nose.”
ALEY KAT
The impeccable voice of Aley Kat cheers the
evenings of many fans in Second Life. Let’s know
this extraordinary voice artist better.
E SINGER
I consider Aley Kat one of
the very few professional
singers who perform
inword, placing her in a
hypothetical and very
personal chart, certainly
in the top positions.
ALEY KAT
SINGER
Aley, with its varied and original
repertoire, is always a guarantee.
I have been following her in SL for
several years. However, I try to find
some notes out of place every evening,
always she represents a confirmation
without any defiance, neither
technical nor interpretative.
Behind a successful performance
and the interpreter’s skill,
there is creativity, imagination,
technique, talent, and a lot of
commitment.
Aley Kat (aka aleylia resident)
known more simply as Aley, is
known and appreciated in SL for
her unfailing dedication to the
music she plays.
In short, Aley, with its varied and
original repertoire, is always a
guarantee.
I have been following her in
SL for several years. However,
I try to find some notes out of
place every evening, always
she represents a confirmation
without any defiance, neither
technical nor interpretative.
I consider Aley Kat one of the
very few professional singers
who perform inword, putting
her in a hypothetical and very
personal ranking, indeed in the
top positions.
Anyone who reads well
knows that carrying out a live
performance is always like
throwing yourself into fish, with
74 360 GRADI

So we can hear her go
from the classic theatrical
musical, sparkling and
representative, to more
intimate and sweet tones of
the soft and reflective genre,
from the famous cover to
the less established song
that seems to have come out
of her writing.
360 GRADI
75

all the accompanying
criticisms that often
tease the listener.
In attending an evening
with Aley, from the very
first greeting notes, you
immediately feel at ease,
with her irresistible
giggles here and there,
spontaneous and
friendly, which confirms
how calm she is and has
fun, even before worry
about making a good
performance. Therefore,
this naturalness affirms
the goodness of her
preparation, certainly
made of personal safety
and her remarkable
discipline.
But the fact she performs
flawlessly isn’t enough.
It is necessary to instill
sensations and emotions.
Indeed, misperceptions
are often compensated.
Her distinct voice, her
tone, excites.
Her repertoire, which
it regularly offers in SL,
often changes according
to the land characteristics
that hosts it.
So we can hear her go
from the classic theatrical
musical, sparkling and
representative, to more
intimate and sweet
tones of the soft and
reflective genre, from the
famous cover to the less
established song that
seems to have come out of
her writing.
I have particular
parameters to establish
when a singer is valid: one
of these is to participate
in one of her evenings
and after a while, iconize
the SL viewer and start
doing other things on
the PC, listening to the
headphones.
I had confirmation of her
professionalism with
Aley when immersed in
something else I forgot
I was in SL, and I felt
like I was following a
radio where songs by
official singers and artists
are generally programmed.
And when I remembered
to pursue instead a live
singer performing in SL, I
immediately came to say,
“these songs looked like
records!”.
This one is one of my
parameters of judgment.
When a piece is the result of
the most profound emotions,
then the right “key” has been
found to interpret author’s
music: walking, hand by
hand with the listener, on a
very particular avenue of the
senses, built from “single
portions” music that makes
the whole message.
Aley’s message comes
straight and without
difficulty.
Aley lives in the United
Kingdom and is a refined
artist with uncommon
sensitivity, with
heterogeneous sounds
that have their roots in her
popular tradition but with
an ever-vigilant look at new
trends and what the musical
world offers at the moment.
We at 360GRADI met her
and pleasantly put her under
pressure:
Van: Aley, before starting
the musical discourse, can
you give us a description of
yourself? Personal details,
76 360 GRADI

where you live, hobbies,
work... what do you think
about yourself?
Aley: I live in the UK and
I love singing in SL. My
shows are scheduled in
my evenings whereas
for a lot of SL residents
they listen to me in
their afternoons (12pm-
5pm SLT). When I’m not
singing in SL, I really
enjoy listening to other
artists, playing virtual
golf or games with
friends or making my
show outfits- playing
barbie with my avatar!
Van: Three adjectives to
describe your singer’s
work in SL.
Aley: Invigorating- I
always feel refreshed
when I finish a show, it
takes a lot of energy but
it’s invigorating at the
same time and clears my
mind.
Uplifting- My aim is
to make people feel
uplifted and happy both
during the hour and once
my show has finished
(sometimes with a couple
of sad musical theatre
songs in the middle for
balance!).
Dedicated- committing to
shows nearly every day
for all these years takes
a lot of dedication and
real life does have to take
a back seat sometimes
for special events that I
book.
Van: If you were not a
singer in SL, what would
you be?
Aley: I would probably
run a venue and most
likely a Sim. I don’t have
the time or funds at the
moment but I absolutely
loved building and
running a Sim, Seven
Seasons, a couple of
years ago with my best
friend Damien.
Van: When did you
start singing? Do you
remember what land you
were?
Aley: I do remember!
I started in January of
2016 at a place called
White Satin. Amazing to
think when I started I had
zero idea I would still be
doing it nearly 5 years
later!
Van: Three songs you love
and why.
Aley: One of my favorite
songs that makes me
instantly feel happy
is September by Earth,
Wind and Fire... as soon
as I hear that intro I’m
dancing in my chair. I
also love singing You
raise me up by Celtic
Woman... the way it
builds throughout the
song and the message it
conveys never fails to hit
the spot. It’s difficult to
pick a third but it would
probably be a musical
theatre song like With
you from Ghost, Someone
like you from Jekyll and
Hyde or maybe All I ask
by Adele. I don’t sing
those songs very often
because they are full of
the feels but sometimes
it’s really cathartic to feel
the emotions through
them.
Van: The duet of your
dreams, with whom real
artist would you do it?
Aley: Hmm.. I would love
to sing with Michael
Buble actually. He has a
natural smooth quality
to his voice and great
tuning... I think our voices
would blend well and
singing some of the jazzy
classics together would
be awesome.
Van: What do you like and
what do you dislike about
your SL performances?
Aley: The people! I
love the people that
come to my shows.
They are wonderful,
360 GRADI
77

loyal supporters of my
singing and always
make me laugh in local.
They are always really
friendly with each other
and welcoming to new
people. Honestly they’re
the best thing about
singing in SL.
The thing I dislike is I can
never hit that US evening
crowd as for me it’s 3/4/5
am in the morning. I’d
love to be able to sing
when the main crowd
in SL is relaxing and
listening to live music.
Van: According to musical
connoisseurs’ widespread
opinion and not, your
performances are very
high in the inworld music
scene. Are you aware
of this, or do you not
pay much attention to
success?
Aley: I feel extremely
lucky to have the success
I do in SL and I am always,
always grateful to the
amazing people that
come and listen day after
day. They support me and
support the venues and
keep music alive in SL. I
never take it for granted...
my manager and hosts
will tell you I’m always
nervous (still!) that no
one will show up to the
venue to listen and I work
really hard to always
deliver to the best of my
ability. I take my job as an
artist in SL very seriously.
If I’ve made the venue
owner and the people
listening happy with my
performance then I view
that as a success.
Van: A prerogative of
your performances is
the covers of famous
and/or successful songs.
Customizing a piece is a
natural process for you, or
do you need a thorough
knowledge of the author
of that song first?
Aley: No, generally
all I need is to feel a
connection to the music.
If the music resonates in
me then I think I can do a
good job covering it and
interpreting it in my own
way.
Van: Your repertoire
is vast both in terms
of musical genre and
diversity of artists. You
can quickly move from
rock to soul, from R&B to
musicals with masterful
interpretations. Where
does your knowledge
come from, and what are
the musical influences?
Aley: My parents both
had very diverse musical
tastes so as I was growing
up I was exposed to all
sorts of different styles
of music and that has
continued into my adult
life. My dad loves reggae
while my mum is more
into soul. So I had artists
like Bob Marley and
the Wailers alongside
soul legends like Aretha
Franklin- it was great. I
also grew up performing
musical theatre (as many
of my listeners will tell
you I love singing!) and
being a 90s kid I also
listened to a lot of pop.
I think everyone would
find something they
like to listen to on my
songlist- it’s definitely
eclectic! I’ve even
recently added some rock
covers! Have a look on my
website and see if you
can see anything you’d
like: www.aleykat.com
Van: Would you like to
sing together with two or
three other established
singers in SL? If yes, with
whom?
Aley: I absolutely love
dual streaming with
other artists in SL. In
the past I’ve sung with
Maximillion Kleene, Toxic
Darkmatter and Djembe
Dragonfire among others.
I’d love to sing with Tony
Slade in the future- he’s
a newish singer on the
scene and our voices
78 360 GRADI

would definitely go great
together.
Van: What message
would you like to convey
to your listeners?
Aley: Gratitude. When I
started singing I never
dreamed it would
become what it has in SL.
It’s down to my listeners
and I will be eternally
grateful to them all.
I hope I can continue
to earn their loyalty
throughout my shows in
the future.
Van: How do you react to
an evening that didn’t go
well?
Aley: My bestie would
tell you how much I beat
myself up over it! If I
haven’t sung well I feel
absolutely terrible that
I’ve let everyone down.
I’m trying to learn not
to be so hard on myself
but I constantly strive for
perfection in my showsmaybe
it’s the brit in
me? Everything has to be
proper and correct!
Aley: The live music
industry in SL is vastly
unfair now with the
disparity between
earnings of singers and
venue owners. Having
run a venue myself
I’m also aware first
hand how expensive it
is- even when singers
don’t put out tip boards,
listeners always tip
them. I wish there could
be a system where the
venue owners also get
tipped the same amount
(or more!) to offset their
rising costs of renting
land, running a venue
and hiring singers.
Van: Finally and in
thanking you I ask you,
in the light of your
experience, what should
change and what should
remain in SL’s musical
world?
Elisea Carter is a high fashion
Dear readers, I am pleased
to interview Elisea Carter:
many of you will know her for
the beautiful dresses she has
created for years in SL.
With the advent of mesh and
bento she had abandoned,
she wanted to return with
stubbornness, and I assure you
that her dresses are fantastic.
I enjoyed bringing one of her
Elisea: Thank you and all the
Miso: You were born as a
designer when everything
was still in prim: you were
very famous and very loved by
Americans. What do you miss
from that period?
Elisea: I don’t miss anything
from that period for the creation
of clothes. In the past, you
could improvise to be a
designer; it was much
more straightforward;
you just needed
Photoshop basics, know
the build of the platform,
and a bit of imagination.
You could create clothes,
often a bit arranged,
and I dare say almost
simulated. With the
advent of mesh, the
approach to realizing
the clothes and their
Now it is much more
it is no longer possible
you need confident
professionalism and
Miso: How do you think
these years?
Elisea: Because of my
work, I have always lived
very little Second Life.
But as far as I could and
can see, I think nothing
has changed, humanly
speaking. As in reality, or
maybe more than reality,
life here takes very
much emotionally. Often
you are without masks;
it seems a paradox,
considering that there is
no visual approach, and
everyone can be what
they want, but that is
precisely why you are
what you are.
It comes out the most
intrinsic door that is
inside us. And this can
be damn fascinating
and, at the same time,
destructive. I have
witnessed great loves,
beautiful friendships,
but also intense
disappointments, breaks,
and inconsolable tears.
Perhaps here, the soul is
touched.
And that’s why living
on Second Life changes
our lives, swallows our
existence. It’s like living
in a fairy world where
everything becomes
possible, where dreams
and fantasies can come
true, but on the other
hand, it can be harmful
because, at the same
time, it takes us away
from reality.
Miso: Your look is that of
the designer who creates:
do you think that the
models who now show
your new clothes can
convey what you want to
say with your creation?
(I ask you this because,
in my opinion, the model
must represent who has
created leaving aside
the beauty of the avatar
(necessary), but that must
not excel. It is a question
that does not ask for
names, but a general
opinion.
Elisea: Often not; they
can’t convey what that
particular garment
means to me. The outfit
is fundamental, as
well as the poses and
movements, and it is not
enough to be good at
editing accessories or
using poses. Many people
lack imagination and
good taste. It is very well
perceived that they often
have the basis for the
“history of the costume”
and, therefore, the
various periods classified
a particular “style.”
Miso: What do you
suggest to those who are
thinking of becoming a
stylist in SL?
Elisea: Even if we are
not in reality, you should
always be updated on the
fashion of real designers,
always look not only at
their creations but all the
outfit that composes and
gives style to the dress.
We are history, and only
knowing the past can we
think of a future.
Miso: Think about the
models when they show
88 360 GRADI

your creations.
Elisea: Listen to Jazz and
let yourself be captured
by the emotion that
the notes, one after the
other, transmit and then
immerse yourself in that
atmosphere. You will find
the inspiration to wear
my clothes!
Miso: They say that
Fashion in SL is losing
charm. What do you
think?
Elisea: It’s true! And I
think I also know why!
In reality, imagine the
Italian fashion and
not invaded and then
overwhelmed and
imitated by the many
Chinese clothing stores.
This one is more or less
what happened in Second
Life.
Hundreds of kids who
know how to use the
various 3D software,
coming out of college
they decide that until
they find a job; in reality,
they use their knowledge
to glean some linden.
They skillfully and very
skillfully copy everything
that the real world’s
casual clothing offers and
sell on Second Life, often
with low and competitive
costs.
This factor has destroyed
haute couture and forces
designers who are still
trying to create new and
classy clothes to sell at
low prices and affordable
to all. Otherwise, nobody
buys them. Unfortunately,
this is a sad reality!
Miso: Thank you, Elisea,
for your kindness; the
readers of this new
magazine will also know
you as a woman and not
only as a designer. It will
serve to look with other
eyes at your creations.
Elisea: Thank you for the
honor you have given me
with this interview. I hope
to be clear and heartfelt;
also that my speech can
reach all the women who
live in this world so that
the charm of fashion will
be reassessed again.
Jarla Capalini,
PHOTOGRAPHY
Head Column
Writing with light, from the Greek φῶς, φωτός, “light” and
γραϕία, “writing”, this is “photography”.
Now I know that talking about photography in Second
Life will surely make purists curl their noses or smile at
the most benevolent professionals and enthusiasts. Still,
once there were film and exposure meter, then came
digital cameras and files today. We also use phones to take
pictures, and thanks (maybe) to them, photography is now
within everyone’s reach.
Here then is that a “viewer,” with all its peculiarities
techniques can become a perfect means to “write” with the
virtual “light” the encounter between the subject and the
eye of the photographer, from which a new possible vision
is born.
The imagination of reality, albeit virtual.
This one we will do in our journey among the
photographers of Second Life: we will talk about
technique, composition, inspiration and
passion, hoping to convince skeptics that our images,
although depicting a world of pixels,
can rightly be considered “photography.”
SKIP
STAHELI
Skip Staheli’s images are compositions.
It is a complex creative mode, in which
several different elements blend into
the scene.
I remember the first time I saw
Skip Staheli’s image: I think
that was the moment when
I realized how fascinating
photography could be in Second
Life. I’ve always had to deal
with photography because, as
a blogger, I believed in making
the most of the art galleries I
visited.
However, Skip Staheli’s images
were quite different: first of
all, they are compositions, so
he assembled several other
elements to create a single
scene. It is a complex creative
mode: I worked on photographic
compositions (real-life and
virtual images), so I know
the difficulty in creating an
image that convinces that it is
not a jumble of elements put
together.
In addition to creating credible
images (in the sense that the
viewer does not realize that
it is a composition, because
the elements harmoniously
blend into the scene), Staheli
has the talent to excite the
viewer. I honestly believe that
this last aspect is the secret
of his success. If his
creative ability and skill
in Photoshop are not
in question, it is also
true that there are now
several photographers
who take care of their
talent in creating
breathtaking images but
do not have the same
ability to involve the
viewer emotionally.
Beyond my thoughts
on this professional
photographer, I wanted
the reader to have the
opportunity to get to
know Skip Staheli better
by hearing directly from
him the narration of his
experience. I asked him
some questions, probably
the most immediate ones
that anyone would ask
him. From his answers
shines a person who tells
himself with simplicity
and who does not give
importance to success
in the virtual world
of Second Life (in my
opinion, rightly so).
Moreover, it points the
attention on an important
aspect: nowadays,
many photographers
professionally realize
images, just because
photography is one of the
most appreciated activity.
We know Skip Staheli
better in this exclusive
interview for 360 GRADI
Magazine.
“ I am 100% selftaught
in photo
editing and using
Photoshop.”
Skip Staheli
Oema: Did you already
know how to work on a
picture before joining
SL or learned because
of your photographer
activity inworld?
Skip: No, I didn’t know at
all.. the first year, I didn’t
work with photoshop,
but just messed around;
a bit later, I had a very
old version of photoshop,
and had a laptop from
work, with a lousy
graphics card.. and did
all the painting with my
finger on a mousepad...
I’m 100 % autodidact
in photo editing and
photoshop.
Oema: Why choose to be
a photographer in SL, and
when you understood,
you became famous?
Skip: One of the
questions most asked, I
think, I never choose to
be a photographer in SL,
it just happened.. one
day, I found out about
making snaps inworld,
and saw some cool
talents on Flickr with SL
work.. I was inspired to
also do nice jobs, just
for myself and later
for friends.. but soon
friends of friends asked
for photo’s, and at some
point, it seemed I was a
photographer.. so then
I just decided to own
a photo studio “Photo
Studio Purple Cows”
since 2008.
Famous, lol.. that’s a bit
funny, I think.. how much
famous can you be in SL,
and what’s the worth of
it?
Maybe I was lucky that in
my beginning SL time, not
so many photographers
were around, and working
with the right designers
and loads of models
for their model contest
pictures put me on the
map... I don’t think it’s
still happening at this
time, those many photo
contests for models.
Also, by now, all avatars
are mesh, so making
lovely pictures isn’t that
difficult anymore... So
it’s hard to stand out in
such a huge amount of
photographers.
But I certainly don’t
feel “famous” lol. When
people act like I am, I’m
96 360 GRADI

like, please.... it’s just
meeeeeeeeeh!
Oema: Which is the most
exciting part of your SL
work?
Skip: Still the photoshoot,
the contact with my
clients... old clients (some
visit since 2008! and still
come) and also the new
clients, getting to know
them, to talk with them...
Find out about their
wishes and a bit about
how they are...
Just as exciting is their
reaction when I deliver
the photo, mostly they
have to wait long, cause
I never rush work, and
when RL is a lot, that
always goes first, so I
always tell upfront it
can take a long time
before turn back time of
the photo... I am not a
factory; I cannot create
when my head is not right
for it.. It can really touch
me when the photo’s
outcome makes my client
happy and how they react
to it. Feedback is very
important!
Also exciting is that
during the shoot, often
many ideas pop up... I like
to share my ideas with
my client, and it’s great
when they are just as full
with enthusiasm as I am..
And when I start editing,
what I feel with work, and
how it slowly becomes
a true piece, with the
feeling I was going for... I
can feel a true rush goes
through me when I’m on
the roll with editing, pure
excitement.. and can be
so pleased with a newly
created piece, that I keep
looking at it for a long
time, and enjoy a lot.. lol
It can make me feel super
satisfied, I think it’s an
addiction...
Oema: Would you like
to thank someone who
helped you during your
path?
Skip: My clients!!! It all
wouldn’t be so much fun
without them, and then
my photo studio wouldn’t
be here anymore, I think,
after so many years.
Oema: What are your
programs for the future?
Skip: What programs?You
mean programs I work
with, or how I think my sl
photo work will be in the
future?
I work with PS cs6, with
my Wacom drawing
tablet, some plugins
like Filter Forge, NIK
collection, Alien Ware,
PS lightroom. I’m a green
360 GRADI
screen photographer,
so I don’t shoot in
scenes inworld, but
only in my studio on
the green screen, and
create the whole piece in
Photoshop... I don’t see
myself change this in the
future..
Also, the way I’m working,
I don’t see that change a
lot, as long clients keep
coming, and I can do it
RL wise, I keep going
on... There were years I
was’n active, or much less
active, depends a lot of
RL. So that might change
now and then, but I’m not
planning to quit yet... ;)
“...when I start editing,
what I feel with work,
and how it slowly
becomes a true piece,
with the feeling I was
going for... I can feel a
true rush goes through
me when I’m on the
Skip Staheli
Oema: Thank you, Skip,
for your sincerity and
for being so helpful in
responding. The staff
of 360 GRADI Magazine
wishes you to go on for
CITY FESTIVA
Noir’Wen is a unique destination, a
giant festival of art and shopping, where
the visitor gets lost between culture and
stores, between sacred and profane.
Less than 10 nautical
miles from Noir’York City,
Noir’Wen City was born
out of the forced exile
of two young people
at the end of the 18th
century whose families
had refused to marry
for obscure reasons of
social prudishness and
conflicts and who had
been expelled. They
had disembarked in a
makeshift boat on this
inhospitable and sparsely
inhabited small island
and they settled there.
They then founded a
family out of wedlock
and became the emblem
of one of the first “free
union” assumed and
claimed.
106 360 GRADI

L
The first half of the
19th century saw
the beginning of the
development of the city
and its small harbor with
the development of a
sex toy industry whose
reputation quickly spread
around the world. The
number of people living
in Noir’Wen city grew
rapidly early in the 19th
century.
Fervent in the Second
Life cause, the city of
Noir-Wen played a major
role in supplying all kind
of very creative sex toys
among which the famous
“pink dildo”. Then, with
the development of
the digital and virtual
economy, the workshops
and factories closed
one after the other and
the small city fell into
oblivion.
It is only in the first
decades of the 21st
century that two
descendants of the
young immigrant mythic
couple, Belice Benoir and
Nieuwenhove, decided
to launch with a group
of friends and artists
the regeneration of the
city and bring it back
to life and to desire.
They have experienced
a renaissance as an
exceptional destination,
attracting creators
and artists, and they
offer visitors into an
exceptional postindustrial
urban
aesthetic, a free city,
open to creativity, to
fantasy and to freedom
around a new form of
“permanent fetish fair”
with more than fifty
stores, galleries and
workshops of young and
renowned creators with
its spaces for shopping,
Furniture in Second
exciting activities to the
point that it has become
a business.
I am referring to the
the related bloggers or
them and a multitude
of people who offer
their services as interior
people who do this
Not everyone earns
