ECSA TRADE
INDUSTRIAL CHEMICALS
MARKET REPORT

ACETIC ACID
Begin of 2020, listing prices reached 800 EUR/t as a result
of the limited availability of acetic acid from BP Chemicals
and because of the high prices of methanol. BP has sold
almost all the production from the British site for 2020
to Ineos Oxide for the production of ethyl acetate. From
2Q20 listing prices fell by 15-20%.
ACETON
The upward trend should be confirmed in the third quarter
as well.
Low production rates, caused by a reduced demand for
phenol (the co-product of acetone production) until
September, lower imports and the closure of some
production facilities mean the product’s availability will
continue to be limited (as it was in the second quarter).
Disruption linked to Coronavirus is expected to continue
reducing demand, combined with increasingly broader
economic factors that have had an impact on European
industries and on the consumption of materials
downstream. Seasonal factors will also probably contribute
to reduce the demand for acetone. However, activity in the
construction sector is increasing and could increase further
in the third quarter. The same applies to the automotive
sector.
FAMI-QS:
ECSA IS A
CERTIFIED COMPANY
FOR SPECIALTY FEEDS
The numerous certifications obtained by ECSA over
the years are proof of the company’s efforts and interest
in numerous fields, ranging from product and process
quality to managing supply procedures and delivering
supplies. ECSA Chemicals has a team dedicated entirely
to the activities related to national and international laws;
in January 2020, it started working to achieve FAMI-QS
certification.
FAMI-QS is a certificate focused on specialty feeds and on
the mixture of ingredients they contain. It is the European
code of good practices for companies active in the sector
of additives and pre-mixtures for specialty feeds. Its aim
is the management of the various processing phases while
ensuring full hygiene and safety. The standard can be applied
to all the links in the chain (including separately), e.g.
transport, laboratories for the analyses of these products,
and can be extended to sellers such as ECSA. Obtaining
this certification confirms that the entire supply chain,
from “field to plate” is safe and certified.
FAMI-QS is a recently introduced standard that is not
widespread yet, so it gives a competitive advantage to
certified companies, especially in international markets.
“In recent years, there has
been growing interest in
this type of certification,”
says Enrico Barni, Quality
Manager. “Having FAMI-QS
certification opens new markets to ECSA and
also offers greater peace of mind and safety to our
customers, who will no longer have to organise
audits themselves - they will immediately have
the guarantee that every product meets safety
standards in every link of the supply chain.”
