School art expo<br />
makes asplash<br />

Last week’s Kaiapoi <strong>North</strong><br />
School art expo was achance<br />
for pupils to show off their<br />
creativity after adisrupted<br />
year.<br />
Principal Jason Miles said<br />
staff had planned aschool<br />
production this year as part<br />
of its art rotation, but the<br />
plans were scrapped because<br />
of Covid19.<br />
‘‘We decided to swap it and<br />
have an art expo instead and<br />
it worked out well, with the<br />
move to level 1coming just in<br />
time for the event.’’<br />
Art teacher Nicole<br />
Duxfield worked with the<br />
children across all year<br />
levels to bring out their<br />
creativity, he says.<br />
‘‘I like the way they are<br />
given the same brief, but they<br />
put their own individuality<br />
into it.’’<br />
Mrs Duxfield says her<br />
proudest exhibit was the<br />
Bonded By Bubbles art work,<br />
to which all of the children<br />
contributed. It recognises the<br />
lockdown experience.<br />
‘‘It was such astrange time<br />
for all of us, so we wanted to<br />
acknowledge it in apositive<br />
way and the kids have<br />
captured it beautifully.<br />
‘‘Our community has gone<br />
through alot over the last 10<br />
years, beginning with the<br />
earthquakes and now with<br />
Covid19 and they have coped<br />
well.’’<br />
