OF HUMAN HEALTH
Most people are familiar with the pharmacist’s role in dispensing drugs and counseling patients.
But few realize that it is often the pharmaceutical scientist who initiates the process by which
these drugs are discovered and developed. Pharmaceutical scientists study a combination
of drug interaction mechanisms within the body systems and drug delivery methods within an
individual. Our bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences has been designed to include both
the coursework and hands-on laboratory experiences required to succeed in this dynamic field.

UNIQUE?
Nanotechnology. Neuroscience. Cancer. Addiction. These are some of the areas
where you will find our faculty members doing research. One of the benefits of
attending ACPHS is all of our academic programs are centered around human health.
So there’s a good possibility that a faculty member on campus is studying a topic
closely aligned with your interests. The College is also within walking distance of three
major hospitals, a medical school, and New York State’s Public Health Laboratory.

Many of our graduates choose to continue their studies in medical school or other
types of graduate programs. Options include our B.S./M.S. joint degree program,
which allows you to obtain a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Pharmaceutical
Sciences in just five years, or our B.S./M.D. joint degree program with Albany
Medical College. Other graduates seek employment immediately after graduation
at companies such as Abbott Laboratories, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, and
Albany Molecular Research Inc.
COURSEWORK
AND
INTERNSHIPS
Each student in the Pharmaceutical Sciences program will choose one of two areas
of focus—pharmacology or pharmaceutics. Pharmacology explores how a drug
works in the body; pharmaceutics asks did the drug get to the right place. All
students take the three-course Scientific Reasoning and Analysis sequence during
their first two years. These courses will serve as the foundation for more researchintensive
coursework that follows in the next two years, culminating with a thesis
project in your final year.
