BIOMEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
CHANGE THE FACE
OF HUMAN HEALTH
Biomedical technology is the application of technology and engineering to living organisms,
from designing medical equipment to conducting research. Human health is a puzzle for which
we still do not have all the pieces, but each day we get a little closer. Laboratory tests can now
reveal information previously thought inaccessible. Medical devices produce results in minutes where
once it took weeks. The challenge that lies before us is how to apply this new knowledge in a way
that benefits all of humankind. A bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology could be the first step.
WHAT MAKES
ACPHS
UNIQUE?
One of the great advantages of attending a human health-centered college like
ACPHS is that there are many opportunities to connect with other students and
faculty who share similar interests to you. Clubs and organizations offer excellent
opportunities to forge such relationships, allowing you to enhance your educational
experience. Students in the Biomedical Technology program are regularly drawn
to the Biomedical Technology Club and Pre-Physician Assistant Club.
LIFE
AFTER
ACPHS
For many graduates of the Biomedical Technology program, their degree serves
as a springboard to a Physician Assistant Studies program, such as our B.S./M.S.
joint degree with Albany Medical College. Students also have the opportunity to
pursue one of the College’s own M.S. programs, most typically Clinical Laboratory
Sciences or Cytotechnology & Molecular Cytology.
COURSEWORK
AND
INTERNSHIPS
Of the 126 credits required for graduation, 78 are in the areas of basic, clinical, and biomedical
sciences. The remaining 24 elective credits are often used for independent
study or research with a faculty member. The program is designed to be completed
in four years, but the opportunity exists to finish in 3 ½ years. Students interested in
our CLS or CYTO M.S. degrees have the option of pursuing a joint degree program;
this allows you to obtain a bachelor's in Biomedical Technology and the selected
master's degree in just five years—one year less than it would ordinarily take.
