Its magnificent ridge of about1,300m extends 30km southwest, and the famous GucheondongValley is filled with waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and cascadingrapids to form the "Gucheon-dong 33 Scenic Views." Themountain stream originating in the mountain flows to Mujuin the north, and then into Namdae Stream, a tributary of theGeum River. Deogyusan in winter is reminiscent of the peaksof the Himalayas, the heavy snow sprinkled about the trailsmaking it the #1 choice for winter hiking. Some of the maple trees on themountain are so old that they stand up to 20m tall, and havea circumference of up to 4m. In particular, the 50-200 year-oldforest surrounding Naejangsa Temple is the highlight of themountain. According to records in the temple, Naejangsanhas also been recorded as one of the five most famousmountains in the Honam region, and has been known as theMt. Geumgang of Honam for this reason. A cable car transportsvisitors up to Yeonjabong Peak where the entire mountain canbe viewed in all its autumn glory.http://www.koreasanha.net/san/naejang.htm (Korean)4 BYEON MOUNTAIN Peninsula National Park is the onlynational park in Korea that is a peninsula based national parkwith both mountains and sea included in the park bounds.It was designated as a national park in 1988 and includesByeonsan as its highest peak at 510m, although Naebyeonsanis the main mountainous attraction of the park. Naebyeonsanincludes the famous 20m tall Jikso Falls and several beautifuloverlooks on the way to the falls. The trail in to the falls is apleasant hike, not too steep. The main overlook of the fallsis wide and spacious, where many people are content to sitdown for a snack, but don't be fooled that this is the bestspot.
