2 DEOGYU MOUNTAIN is probably best known for its
ski resort which contains the highest vertical drop of Korea's
commercial resorts, and the longest ski run in Korea (the
Silk Road run is 6km long). Its magnificent ridge of about
1,300m extends 30km southwest, and the famous Gucheondong
Valley is filled with waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and cascading
rapids to form the "Gucheon-dong 33 Scenic Views." The
mountain stream originating in the mountain flows to Muju
in the north, and then into Namdae Stream, a tributary of the
Geum River. Deogyusan in winter is reminiscent of the peaks
of the Himalayas, the heavy snow sprinkled about the trails
making it the #1 choice for winter hiking. And don't forget
the easiest way to the top in winter: the ski lift.

3 NAEJANG MOUNTAIN is exceptionally beautiful
throughout the year, but it is particularly known for its
spectacular autumn leaves which turn relatively redder than
those of other mountains. Some of the maple trees on the
mountain are so old that they stand up to 20m tall, and have
a circumference of up to 4m. In particular, the 50-200 year-old
forest surrounding Naejangsa Temple is the highlight of the
mountain. According to records in the temple, Naejangsan
has also been recorded as one of the five most famous
mountains in the Honam region, and has been known as the
Mt. Geumgang of Honam for this reason. A cable car transports
visitors up to Yeonjabong Peak where the entire mountain can
be viewed in all its autumn glory.

4 BYEON MOUNTAIN Peninsula National Park is the only
national park in Korea that is a peninsula based national park
with both mountains and sea included in the park bounds.
It was designated as a national park in 1988 and includes
Byeonsan as its highest peak at 510m, although Naebyeonsan
is the main mountainous attraction of the park. Naebyeonsan
includes the famous 20m tall Jikso Falls and several beautiful
overlooks on the way to the falls. The trail in to the falls is a
pleasant hike, not too steep. The main overlook of the falls
is wide and spacious, where many people are content to sit
down for a snack, but don't be fooled that this is the best
spot. Continue along the path about 100m further to a rocky
stairway that leads down to the pool and views like the picture.
