Well that crept up on us quickly didn’t 

it! Christmas 2020 is upon us and with it 

we are making up for lost time with our 

biggest issue of Cooper’s Choice EVER. 

We’ve got over 100 pages stuffed with 

offers and new products to help you 

drive sales this November & December. 

At the time of going to print, we are 

dealing with more rule changes which 

brings in the 10pm curfew and rule of 6, 

but don’t let that deter you from trying 

to maximise the opportunities that are 

out there. We read in a recent survey 

that three quarters of those asked said 

that they wanted to experience the 

on-trade over the festive period. People 

will come out over Christmas, it’s just 

more likely to be last minute so we must 

be prepared for that eventuality. 

Starting us off is a fantastic Craft Beer 

feature from Dayla’s very own Mayor 

of Flavourtown, Tom Allen, in which he 

advises on the tastiest and juiciest drops 

in the marketplace. This includes some 

stonking low and no alcohol options for 

those in the drivers seat or being that 

little more health conscious. Check this 

out from page 4. Our Cooper’s Choice 

cask listings are as exciting as ever, 

with firm favourites from the likes of 

Beartown, Hophurst, Red Rock, Three 

Fiends and then of course, our jolly 

good Christmas beers which sell out 

quickly every year. Make sure you order 

these in plenty of time! 

One new product that deserve a special 

mention is Lucky Saint (page 29). A 

superior, unfiltered lager which at just 

0.5% abv and 53 calories is a perfect 

choice if you’d like to improve your low 

& no options. The founder of Lucky Saint 

put an incredible amount of time into 

creating a great beer that just happened 

to be alcohol free. You’ll find more 

flavour than your average 0% lager and 

the creamy mouthfeel makes it a stand 

out. This will also appeal to those who 

don’t normally drink lager or beer. 

If you haven’t spotted our cover star yet, 

take a quick look and see the delectable 

Warner’s Christmas Cake Gin. This 

is a very limited edition run so make 

sure you order yours now and enjoy 

the flavour of winter spice and dark 

chocolate, blended with pure cherry 

juice. Serve with premium cola and a 

slice of orange, or add to indulgent hot

It’s Christmas! The time for up selling! 

Christmas and New Year often brings on a period of reflection for us all, and 2020 has certainly 

given us a lot to reflect on! The adage “Trouble brings experience, and experience brings wisdom” 

feels about as apt as it gets. And from being out in the on-trade this year, I know we are a resilient 

lot, one that will bounce back like a Michael Jordanian basketball (given half a chance) we just need 

fewer hoops to jump through. 

This year will be a funny one, and although it may be tougher than normal, Christmas will still bring 

opportunity, one best summed up by a couple of wise philosophers. Timon & Pumbaa once said 

“Hakuna Matata” Christmas by in large is just that, a time where we forget our worries even if just 

for a few days, it’s our temporary, problem-free philosophy. Hakuna Matata! 

Ok I shall stop before I get a cease and desist letter from Disney. or ruin your favourite Lion King 

song, but that philosophy can make our tills ring. Now more than ever we want to get a sense of 

normality, and our annual tradition of overindulgence while catching up with friends and family is 

no different. And although we have restricted opening hours and group sizes, that just means we 

need to make more from each customer. And thankfully It’s that time of the year when we pimp 

the Prosecco or pop the Champagne. So, with this in mind I’ve selected a few products from

Hennessy doesn’t really need an introduction its that renowned in the spirit world. It’s flagship luxury Cognac is their X.O. it 

is a cornucopia of expressions all in one sip. Expect warm candied fruit with peppery spicy and cacao, that round off with 

velvety floral and rich oaky vanilla notes. A star for the top of your spirits Christmas tree! 

At first I was captured by the interesting label, then I read about it. It’s called Ilogico because it 

doesn’t make sense for grapes to grow this high! Most malbecs grow at altitudes of up to 1500 

metres. Ilogico is picked from vineyards ranging from 1,650 to 3,100 metres. Loco! 

The reason why this is so special is because as soon as myself and my colleague Tim popped 

and poured it, we couldn’t stop smiling! I’m smiling now thinking about smelling it for the first 

time. Perhaps I’ve over sold it now, but it is as rich and complex as a port but without the sugar 

content, and I’m amazed a vegan wine can taste so meaty! Without doubt I will be drinking this 

on Christmas day one of the best malbec expressions I’ve ever tasted.
