FEATURE FEATURED A R TIC L E KEYPOINT INTELLIGENCE Keypoint Intelligence told us 2020 has been an interesting year to say the least. While there have been definite lows and challenges, we have also seized the opportunity to improve our company, explore new areas of the market, and better serve customers. The Key Point Blog has been a strong company focus in 2020 One notable setback for our business has been the ability to test products in our labs. When countries suddenly implemented lockdowns due to COVID-19, we could no longer perform the same level of testing as before. We are now moving back to full testing, so hopefully clients will continue sending us a wide range of devices and software for comprehensive evaluations. ▲ Mack P. Brothers President and CEO, Keypoint Intelligence Despite all the difficulties we’ve faced so far in 2020, we are truly excited for the opportunity to rethink our business, shift directions, and capitalize on new areas of research, coverage, and insight for our industry. This year we have also faced uncertainty over client contract renewals. Many of our clients are based in Japan; with the onset of COVID-19 (in many regions) occurring near the end of their fiscal year, they were not necessarily available to discuss contract renewal. In fact, in some cases discussions over continued business were postponed for several months. Our company has also experienced a major change in leadership. On 1 May, Mack P. Brothers became the new president and CEO. With 30 years of research and advisory expertise, Brothers most recently served as chief product officer at U.S.-based Forrester Research. While this appointment represents an exciting opportunity for Keypoint Intelligence, it is also true that a significant leadership change does require a period of unpredictability and adjustment. Since the pandemic hit, we’ve tried to find ways to better serve our customers and the industry in general. One way we’ve achieved this is through creating a wealth of free COVID-19-related content (as well as insight on other industry topics), including blog posts and podcasts, designed to help the print sector get through this difficult time. Many of the themes seem to have resonated with print manufacturers, office equipment dealers, and others—sparking new conversations, product ideas, and business. Another positive from this year has been fresh primary research on unprecedented developments and trends. We are currently fielding a Future of Office Printing survey focused on how general office workers have changed work and print habits since starting to work from home as a result of the pandemic. And later this year we plan to survey IT decision makers on how their offices as well as companies’ approach to print are changing. Despite all the difficulties we’ve faced so far in 2020, we are truly excited for the opportunity to rethink our business, shift directions, and capitalize on new areas of research, coverage, and insight for our industry. 10 Issue 334 September 2020

Our printer implemented new working conditions, and this added a few days to production of the magazine. Mailing was more challenging with social distancing meaning we had to follow special delivery protocols delivering the mailing to the post office. Then came the global lockdowns that impacted on mailing. On average it takes 2 – 10 days to mail the magazine around the world. With the pandemic some countries were closed for mailing, others slowed down the processing of mail. In April the average, where delivery was possible, shifted to 3 to 25 days. Fortunately, that has improved each month since and only a few countries remain closed. Our summer conference has now been moved to May 2021, but the next industry event in Europe is Paperworld on the 30 Jan – 2 Feb where the new format for Remanexpo will be in Hall 6.1.
