The road to sustainable development will be built on innovation. Growing environmental awareness<br />
and regulatory pressures are driving research into alternatives to petroleum-based materials, and<br />
particularly into biodegradable materials from renewable resources. The imperative to protect our<br />
environment and dwindling natural resources was underscored by the UN Millennium Development<br />
Goals (MDGs) which were agreed at the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000 and<br />
supported by nearly 190 countries around the world.<br />
InnoBioPlast 2006 aims to highlight the role that bioplastics can and will play in contributing to<br />
environmental protection and the principles of sustainable production and consumption in both<br />
developed and developing countries. The event will bring together key players in the global research<br />
and business communities, regulators and environmental organizations in order to share the latest<br />
technological breakthroughs, promote equitable regulatory frameworks and facilitate new partnerships<br />
and incentives to expand the industry.
