COMPANY PROFILE
The National Innovation Agency recently completed a 1 year Technical Assistance project on organic
agriculture, with the support of the Geneva-based UN International Trade Centre (ITC) and
the European Union.
A 7-point National Action Plan for organic agriculture was produced to help put more Thai organic
produce on the plates of European consumers.
The initiative has provided assistance to the Kingdom in preparation to apply for EU’s “Third Country
List”, the direct channel for EU to accept imports of organic products from Thailand. Inclusion on
this list will provide a big boost to Thailand’s organic sector.
The plan covers production, regulations, certification, research, training and marketing, and is the
result of extensive talks with growers, regulators, companies and researchers. Acknowledging thesuccess
of many ongoing initiatives under Thailand’s National Organic Agenda, the plan aims to dovetail with
existing activities.
NIA therefore worked closely with concerned agencies, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture and
Cooperatives, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Commerce as well as individual
growers and cooperatives.
