KIT is committed to generating, disseminating, and preserving knowledge in science, technology and
art that will serve the whole world in the 21st century. Its key concepts are ‘cultivation of both
intellect and aesthetic appreciation in students,’ ‘care of the natural environment,’ and ‘collaborations
between art and science.’ By developing an artistic mind and a rich humanity, which underlie Japan’s
manufacturing traditions, into theories of technology and design, KIT strives to establish ‘peopleoriented
technologies’ and thus contribute to the betterment of humankind.
R&D Center for Bio-based Materials (CBM) that was established in May of 2005 is dedicated to the
creation of new ideas in developing bio-based materials by conducting related research and development
with both academic and industrial partners. CBM will also provide research-based education to
engineers outside universities as well as to the students of KIT. Any cooperative work with the center
staffs will be highly encouraged.
