St Vincent’s College has a long and distinguished tradition in the Catholic education of young women from city and rural areas of New South Wales. Located in the heart of Potts Points the College is well served by public transport with many of its students coming from suburbs throughout metropolitan Sydney. In 1858 St Vincent’s College was founded on its present site by the Sisters of Charity. Knowledge of the world illumined by the light of faith is a basic principle of the College philosophy as stated in the College motto Scientia cum Religione. Academic Rigour: Integral to the ethos of the College is recognising and nurturing the individual talent of each student and fostering their unique giftedness. Students thrive in this supportive environment, resulting in excellent outcomes of learning. Personal excellence is encouraged by offering each student a diverse and challenging curriculum tailored to suit her own learning requirements and skills. With a commitment to truth and integrity the students are encouraged to be academically resilient, working both independently and collaboratively as a sound basis for academic success. They are well supported by highly competent classroom teachers, and a very committed team of Diverse Learning Teachers. While current and emerging technologies are integrated into all learning and teaching processes, policies and procedures are in place to ensure students also practise the life skill of self-regulating their engagement with technology. Co-Curricular: Students enjoy the benefits of an exciting and extensive co-curricular program that caters to their diverse talents and interests, nurturing mind, body and spirit to build individual confidence and self-esteem. Students are encouraged to discover their athletic ability with individual and team sports; release their creativity with performing and creative arts; share their generous spirit with social justice groups; and build strength of character with leadership opportunities. This helps develop a College and personal ethos of advantage, without entitlement. Boarding: Boarding is at the heart of the College and students are drawn from across NSW. Boarders bring a rich and diverse variety of life experiences to the College, and are welcomed into a community where friendships created, last a lifetime. The facilities offer all the comforts for boarding students to establish a sense of belonging. St Vincent’s College is committed to girls having plenty of bedroom space in twin and single bedrooms. There are no dormitories in the Boarding House. Each Year group is under the care of a dedicated Boarding Coordinator whose primary concern is the spiritual, pastoral, physical and academic well-being of each boarder. Study is supervised with teaching support available to the girls. Weekends involve a mix of study, sport and leisure time utilising the inner-city location of the College with close access to all Sydney has to offer; landmarks, cultural facilities, Sydney Harbour and beaches. “The ‘Vinnies’ spirit’ that the girls carry in their hearts and minds is almost impossible to define but it is tangible and has passed from cohort to cohort over the long history of this – one of Australia’s oldest educational institutions.
