MINI RUGBY REVIEWWelcome to Mini Rugby at St. Mary’s CollegeRFC.Mini Rugby embodies all that is good in thegame: fun, friends, new skills and a strongsense of community. We field teams fromUnder 6s to Under 12s and our focus isalways on welcoming all boys and girls andmaking sure that they feel at home in ourclub. We celebrate diversity and work hardto make sure that every child feels included.We have an outstanding group of Mini Rugbycoaches who work tirelessly to ensure theongoing success of Minis. Mary’s have been aleading club in the field of Child Welfare,working in conjunction with the IRFUensuring that all coaches are registered andvetted. We also provide ongoing training inall aspects of coaching young players.Normally when we write about the MiniRugby season, we have many highlights tofocus on. These include teams playing at halftime in Leinster matches, away trips with ourFirsts for AIL matches, an overseas trip forour Under 12’s and our annual landmarkoccasions such as the eagerly anticipatedUnder 6 / 7 Pro 14 tournament, ouroutstanding Christmas party and raffle andthe end of season Fun Day.However, for the 2020/21 season ouroutstanding achievement was getting ourboys and girls back on to the hallowed turfof Templeville Road, enjoying training everySunday (as well as mid-week on certainoccasions) in the safest possibleenvironment.It has been an inspiration to us to see theclub come together weeks in advance of thenew season to plan, invest and prepare forthe safe return of Mini Rugby. It was soencouraging to see the commitment fromthe club with every pitch (including thefirsts!) made available to us. This has been adifficult year for all sports clubs in Irelandand around the world – nevertheless Mary’shave not wavered in their support of ourMinis.The all-important safety aspect was led byDavid Mowlds who took the lead role ingetting rugby restarted in the club in theCovid environment; he worked tirelessly tothis end and we are very proud to say that33
