Mary’s have been at the forefront of bestpractice in returning to rugby in the safestpossible way. We are very grateful to David.Junior, Youth and Mini rugby and we cancount on the support of all of these inadvancing the cause of our Minis.We reached out for volunteers to act asCovid Safety Officers for each team and hada massive response. David organised trainingfor each of these as well as for our invaluableHead Coaches and everyone responded inthe spirit and the letter of the newguidelines. We launched the ClubZap App(with valued support from John Bainbridge)and our parents embraced it as a key safetyenabler.We started back on Sunday 13 th Septemberafter 26 weeks without rugby and we havenot looked back since! We launched ourUnder 6 team with record numbers getting amagnificent introduction to rugby by HeadCoach Joe Shine and his outstanding groupof coaches. We are pleased to report that ourparents have embraced the new restrictionswith good grace and good humour and wehave approx. 400 mini players in the clubevery Sunday morning with some of the bestAutumn weather we have experiencedthrown in for good measure!Mary’s is a truly unique rugby environmentwhere those who are new to the game droptheir kids off alongside legends of Leinster,Ireland, Lions and world rugby. The clubfields teams at all levels from AIL through to35We want to acknowledge Club President, thegreat Vinnie Cunningham, HonorarySecretary (& Mini Coach!) Colin Smyth, ourChairman and all the Executive who haveworked so hard for Mini Rugby – this yearmore than ever.We want to thank Marie Hammond for herguidance, encouragement and tireless effortsin support of our Minis. Thanks also to Mary’sChild Welfare Officer, Pearl Healy, whoensures the highest standards of childwelfare in Mini Rugby and also to theDirector of Rugby (and Mini Coach!)
