On Jan. 15, village council approved the
appropriation of $24,000 from the water
capital improvement fund to pay for the
project.
The break occurred in late December and
impacted parts of State Route 56, Church
Street, and Houston Street. When crews
started repair work, they encountered
valves that broke when turned which added
to the scope of the project. The break has
since been repaired and the valves replaced.

• The last day to pay first-half 2020 property taxes
in Madison County is Friday, February 12, 2021.
• Payments must be made in person at the Madison
County Treasurer’s Office until 4:00 P.M. Friday,
February 12, 2021.
• Mailed payments must be postmarked by the Post
Office by midnight Friday, February 12, 2021.
• By law, first-half taxes paid after February 12, 2021,
will incur a 5% penalty for the first ten days and after
ten days a 10% penalty will incur regardless of
whether the taxpayer has received a bill.
• If you have not received a first-half 2020 property
tax bill, call the Treasurer’s Office immediately at

Also at the Jan. 15 meeting, council approved
the creation of an account for unclaimed
funds. An audit revealed that the
village has $4,500 in unclaimed funds,
meaning checks they made to, say, contractors,
vendors, or employees that have not
been cashed for a long time.
By law, the village must keep such funds
in an unclaimed funds account for five years
before the funds can be released back into
the general fund.
Council also approved legislation recognizing
the Ohio Department of Transportation’s
intent to replace and upgrade
guardrails on U.S. Route 62. The work will
be done at no cost to the village.
With the start of a new year, council
elected a new president. Jay Pettey replaces
Becky Martin as the council leader for 2021.

London Public Library

• Computer Assistance. Beginning the week of Jan. 25, Allison,
circulation assistant at the library, will offer one-on-one computer
assistance via Zoom. She can assist with basic computer help, e-mail
assistance, and help with Microsoft products such as Word, Power-
Point and Excel. Call the library for dates and times and to register.
• Winter Reading Challenge. The challenge runs through Feb.
28. Children (birth-10 years old), teens (11-17), and adults are invited
to read for 10 hours and complete 10 physical activities. Every
child and teen who finishes the challenge gets to pick out a prize
and new book. Children and teens who want to go beyond the basic
challenge can complete the Super Reader Challenge for a chance at
a grand prize. Adults who complete the challenge will be entered
for a chance to win a $50 gift card for Amazon or Walmart. Register

• Virtual Story Times. Toddler story times are held at 10 a.m.
