RUGBY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT VISITS SHANNON RFC
The Munster Rugby Development Department
paid a visit to Shannon RFC last month, prior to
the current lockdown, to host a coaching and
player development workshop across the club’s
minis and youth sections.
Shannon RFC has 520 registered children
playing rugby from U6s right up the club’s
U18.5s section. With all boys and girls teams
participating, it provided a unique opportunity
for Munster Rugby’s Rugby Development
Officers (RDOs), Coach & Player Development
Officers (CPDOs) and Club & Community Rugby
Officers (CCROs) to engage with the Shannon
RFC coaches and volunteers.
With non-contact training only permitted due
to the current government restrictions, Munster
Rugby staff were able to assist the coaches in
providing safe and fun sessions for the various
age groups while also listening to feedback
from the club’s coaches who have been
working extremely hard over the last number of
months in ensuring that children still have the
opportunity to get outside, exercise and have
fun with their friends.
Many of Shannon’s coaches have also been
participating in online Munster Rugby coaching
courses, so the day’s events provided an
opportunity to put into action what they have
learned.
“The whole idea was to be able to follow up on
practical work that a number of the Shannon
coaches have been doing on the online
courses,” Munster Rugby RDO Gerry Casey
said.
“But also to engage with coaches from U6s to
U18.5s both boys and girls. To give a different
voice and maybe a different outlook on the way
to coach."
