Guest of HonourArzan KhambattaArzan Khambatta is an architectby profession and asculptor by choice.Encouraged by his parents, he startedsculpting after giving his 10thstandard exams in 1982. He wouldscout the streets, garages, constructionsites for scrap metal, collectthe same and weld them intopieces of art he fondly christened“SCRAPTURES”. A word that hasbecome synonymous with Arzan.His latest project includes blogpublications that are centered onsharing stories, thoughts and artthat are related to our most innatehuman connections such as love,pain and compassion in an effort toempower others. He is one amongthe highly looked for and soughtafter artist. His artworks have anuncommon sense of innate portraitof thoughts depicted visually.What started off purely as a hobby,slowly began to yield income whenhis first buyer, architect Dara Mistrybought his first piece in 1983for Rs:2000. He got his first publicresponse in 1993 when he openedSCRAPTURES to the public at theJehangir Art gallery in sept 1993.The message of a piece is alwaysone of utter importance. For him thisholds a special place in his heart. Forevery piece to have its own messageand story which helps in connectingwith people. Each paintingrepresents a specific person andwhere they come from. The beautyof the painting lies in the seeinggreatness in every person.Commissioned works startedpouring in, the first one being theMOGHUL outside the jewel of indiaat the Nehru centre commissionedby Architect Noshir Talati in 1989.Now Khambatta’s works are foundin corporate houses, hotels, and privatecollections around the worldand range from six inches to sixtyfeet in height, The most prominentones being the dolphins at worli andthe INS Vikrant monument atCurrently 13 solo shows and over150 group shows aroundthe globe, Arzan hasembarked on a venturethat is close to hisheart, namely Curatingshows for a fewNGOs.His first fundraiser forThe Jai Vakeel Schoolin 2019, involved100 sculptures madeby him, which went out to85 artists, who paintedtheir renditions on thesculptures. This wasa complete100%sellout and the school benefittedfrom it largely.He has also made a film titled “DECI-BEL” a whacky view on noise pollutioninBombay. This movie has hadsuccessful screenings at the KalaGhoda festivals.Also to his credit, he has just finishedone of the largest ever suspendedsculptures measuring 25feet diameter and weighing 3.5tons, suspended by 5oo stainlesssteel cables.Besides sculpting andfilm making, Arzandabbles in a numberof activities namelyphotography, designingprops and sets forexperimental plays,designing and makingtrophies, he is an avidIyenger yoga practitioner,loves travelling abroad,and extensively by roadin India, he lovesf o o d ,
