They designed theVincent van Gogh: The Starry Nightset, allowing you to build the iconicpainting in 3D.Legotruman says, “As a LEGO fanand an admirer of the painter, I wishto recreate one of his most celebratedartwork in Legoform, and share thiswith all Lego fans andart lovers!” The ideagained over 10,000votes, meaning the1,552-piece set is nowapproved to go intoproduction.Van Gogh painted TheStarry Night in 1889during his stay at amental health facilityin the nearby Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.The famous paintingdepicts his viewthrough his room’s“iron-barred window”just before sunrise.With it’s swirling sky,flame-shaped trees,and the addition ofan imaginary village,the painterly sceneexpresses “the violenceof his troubledpsyche.” A year afterArt News‘Starry Night’ Painting Being Turned Into a3D LEGO SetVan Gogh painted The Starry Night—on July 27, 1890—the troubled artistshot himself in a wheat field. Twodays later, he fell victim to his injuries.For the three-dimensional LEGO versionof The Starry Night, Van Gogh’siconic brushstroke style is capturedwith short, thin bricks in multiplehues. The swirling sky can be builtusing an assortment of brick platesand curved parts, while the stylizedmoon and stars are depicted as circularpieces. Legotruman says, “Myfavorite part is the inclined platestack on the right, capturing theangled brush strokes within themoon-lit cloud.” The set even featuresa Van Gogh mini figure witha paint brush, painting palette, aneasel, and a miniature “Starry Night”painting.
