Sisters deliver recipe for success
By DAVID HILL
The ‘‘Two Raw Sisters’’ are looking
forward to returning to the Amuri A&P
Show on Saturday, March 6.
Like so many Cantabrians,
Christchurch siblings Rosa and Margo
Flanagan had their plans thrown into
turmoil by Covid19 after performing
their cooking demonstration at last
year’s Amuri A&P Show.
The pair were due to fly out to
Melbourne and to the United States in
March last year, but instead retreated to
their parents’ kitchen to produce online
workshops.
Over the next two months, the sisters
have afull schedule of A&P shows to
visit, should New Zealand remain at
alert level 1.
‘‘It was great. We love doing these sort
of shows,’’ says Margo, recalling last
year’s visit to the Rotherham
Showgrounds.
‘‘It was quite funny returning to mum
and dad’s last year, because it was
where we started.
‘‘We kept ourselves busy testing out
recipes and everyone was really good
and really responsive to the online stuff.
‘‘We enjoyed the online workshops,
but we are looking forward to seeing
people rather than looking at the screen,
which is abit boring sometimes.’’
Since performing at last year’s Amuri
A&P Show, the sisters have published
their second book, All Eaters Welcome,
and they are already working on their
third book.
‘‘The plantbased movement is
definitely becoming more of athing, but
we want to reach out to all eaters,’’
Margo says.
‘‘It’s about starting your meals with
vegetables and then you can add meat if
you want.
All eaters welcome ... The
and Margo Flanagan, will be
‘‘Our recipes explore fun and exiting
ways to use those pantry staples and to
show people how delicious plants can
be.’’
The sisters will be giving a
demonstration at 2pm at the show with
two recipes: Apear, ginger and peanut
butter bircher and abroccoli,
buckwheat and sesame salad.
‘‘They are perfect for taking to work or
for when you are entertaining,’’ Margo
says.
‘‘And we will be looking at substituting
ingredients. People often come to a
recipe and get stressed out about it
because they can’t find all the
ingredients, so it’s about being flexible
—one recipe can become 20 recipes.’’
